But only in Algeria ... for now.

Al-Jazeera TV Doha in Arabic said:
‘Algeria to stop over 3m SIM cards to prevent their use in terror attacks’ An Algeria security official has announced that work is being carried out in order to scrap more than three million unregistered telephone SIM cards so as to help prevent the explosion of bombs detonated remotely by using handsets equipped with these cards. The same source added that the bombs used in some of the attacks which took place in Algeria lately were detonated remotely by using signals from handsets equipped with unregistered SIM cards.
Wait for HMG to twig to this.

This will not make a jot of difference, by registering a PAYG sim you’re only giving the details you wish to give; they’re not checked as with a contract phone as you are of no financial risk to the network.

If you had to go through a credit check to get a PAYG and hence confirm your identity, there would be no PAYG market, as these are most likely individuals who cannot pass a CC.

Nonsense really.

Great ideas from those who haven’t got a clue… where else does that apply?

Italy too. You have to provide ID to get a phone/sim PAYG or contract.
