Thanks chap, some time ago you gave me some pointers to draft a letter re: certain person using a car I had sold him and pretending to be me at the same time.

today result, confirmation that a) he has been nicked for it b) he is being done for no tax / insurance / mot c) the insurance company that i wrote back to were behind him getting caught.
