Whats it like being a Copper?
Discussion
This is a post mainly to the BiB on this forum, although id welcome opinions from anyone
Basically im currently a Graphic Designer, but ive always fancied joining the Police force. I dont actually know why, its just a strange feeling i have that id like to try and join. I also like the idea of not doing the same thing day in, day out and also being out and about in the community.
Can anyone on here give me a few pointers as to why i should/shouldnt consider joining? Any 'day in the life' style posts?
Cheers chaps,
Dave

My house mate of about 9months now joined the police just before he moved into our house. He moved to Chester after his training (at Crewe?) finished.
I think he on the whole enjoys it (damn good looking barsteward keeps pulling his witnesses - grrrr), but he gets pi55ed off with the lack of thanks from the public, the brick wall he faces everytime he arrests someone and the general idiotic inspector (i think) that he has to work under. He seems quite committed, he's been noted legging it through the town after scrotes of various types so i can see his point after this sort of effort, when the gits get away with it....
Think about it hard i would say....

My skin & blister loves it, I give her a wish list of the particular sectors of society I wish to be persecuted on a weekly basis.
This week it is people with yellow coloured Japanese / Korean cars, and people with unusually shaped ears.
Obviously if you fall into both categories, you are going down for a stretch, but deservedly so in my opinion.

You just never know Mike
Do you want to join the Traffic division?. I want to be a Class 1 Driver and drive round in a Volvo T5 not a Fiesta

The pay worries me - its more than im on now, but less than i'd want to be on in a few years! Also i dont like the idea of shift work one iota!
You get lots of *discounts* as a BiB so i have noticed. Also you need a cheeky eye, because a lady loves a man in uniform and if that lady works behind the counter....!
Pay quoted above is roughly what my mate gets i think (maybe £1k or so less) but i think he is due regular up grades. The pension that he was offered far outweighs anything offered by a PLc as far as i can see however and of course is one of the major benefits it would seem.
I'm sure you can send off for joining details from somewhere....!
the g/s bro is a copper in the Met, the basic isn't too bad (I appreciate it's better than in the regions) but where he makes his money is in the overtime. Added to plenty of time off and the fact that he loves his jobs = one happy bunny. Bunch of animals though, was in pub with about 20 of them and someone had called the bib saying there was a bunch of football hooligans in the pub! (no damage or abuse, just high spirits).
