Education needed re: 100+ speeding
Discussion
On Monday I picked up a new GSX-R1000 motorbike. Obviously I'm still running the thing in and so I can't use full throttle and I'm limiting myself to 6000rpm of a 12500rpm maximum.
Thing is in 6th gear I'm still able to do over 100 and it take no time to get there. No drama, not dangerous, no fuss.
If (or rather when i suspect) I get nicked for big speed how can the authorities use the "dangerous driving" line - like they did with the two bikers who were jailed?
Do we need more education on this - as I'm sure any motorcycle plod would agree - it is so easy to do on a bike.

and just as easy in a car.
Part of going over >100mph in safety is looking ahead for hazards, including Speed Cameras/Police etc.
It's not inevitable that you'll get caught if you do it sensibly
My main worry is that I often pass Police who are on the opposite carriageway, but they can't feasibly come after me. I'm worried that if I do eventually get pulled for some other misdemeanour, they will remember all the times they've seen me speeding in the other direction! Or do they see so many speeding bikers that they won't remember me?
Nice Bike btw

My view is that if you do something often enough it is a certainty that you'll get caught doing it eventually.
My problem is that in my own mind I don't see a problem with speeding and so in National limited roads I just treat them as a free for all.
What I don't agree with is how all of a sudden speeding become dangerous driving.

I totally agree with you that Speeding shouldn't automatically become dangerous driving above a certain arbitrary limit. So much depends on the circumstances.
However, that's the line the law seems to be taking at the moment, so you need to bear that in mind when considering the consequences.
I found the recent case of the 2 bikers who were jailed for 150ish very interesting, becuase it was the first such case (that I was aware of) where speeding was the only issue. In other cases, such as the bloke in Scotland with the M3, he had already been banned from driving, and that aggravated the 'crime'. The 2 bikers admitted to the dangerous driving charge, probably following advice from their legal representative.
I would like to think that should it happen to me, I would try and fight the dangerous driving part. My sister is a criminal barrister, so it wouldn't cost me too much!

Yeah I agree - I think maybe a richer man would have fought against the dangerous driving part. After all one thing that is quite key with the speed laser cameras is that the operators are sometimes not even full time plod. Therefore there would be nobody actually present who would really be qualified to say who or what dangerous driving was.

These people admitted that they were riding the bikes (they were not stopped at the time of the offence)
Are you sure about that? If so, they had a piss poor lawyer. You are not required to self - incriminate(S172) unless the penalties are 'modest' and no jail. Stott -v- Brown (Privy Council, Dec 2000).
Does anyone know these guys. They may be able to get it undone.

yea wbut whapens is the nipp em for speeding then up the charge later to dangerous driving after the got em to fess up.
Their lawyer should have warned them before they returned it. Of course, they probably returned it before even speaking to a lawyer. Nonetheless, the lawyer should have got the evidence (the NIP) ruled inadmissable (case law as above). Then, moved for dismissal as there was no evidence at the close of the prosecution case.
