The missus has just received a notice saying that she owes the local council £135 for a parking ticket she received back on January 2002!
£60 is for the original ticket, £75 for late payment. She thinks she paid it, however, does anyone know if they can send you demands like this 18 months after it was issued?? What is the time limit? 2 years? Forever!!? Its a company car if this makes any difference....

If your wife got the original ticket attached on the car you don't have much recourse!

Your company or the lease firm (whoever owns the car) will have received the demands previously and if no action was taken will be liable for the excess....

I used to help run one of the country's larger fleets, and our lease firm had to bite the bullet if they didn't pass on the fines to us.

Thanks - i presume it was attatched to the car.

She is checking her records, but if she didnt pay it, how long are they valid for? Could they send her a bill for instance in 10 years time? I know if you are snapped by a scamera van, they have to serve the NIP witin 14 days.... This is 18 months!

IIRC a debt is valid for a period of 6 years after the last request for payment, so, if they ask for payment every six years it can remain valid for a very long time.

and if they chase it further the price will keep going up. There was a TV program recently about Bailiffs and people were getting bills of £600+ for one parking ticket due to late payment and Bailiffs fees etc. If she can find a bank statement that shows the correct amount of money being paid to the council at the right sort of time she might be able to fight it. Otherwise you will have to pay.

ballifs cant enter by force basickly the cant do shit if you dont let em in.

never let one in if they try to force there way batter em .

just make shaw the motor aint parked out side if its reg to you.

having said that the just reg it to someone else

then just send the council the original price of the tick.

they will be unable to clam back the balifs fees in cort the can only get them from grabing youyr goods.
