"Speed Kills" slogan- You rename it!

I believe that the Governments 'Speed Kills' slogan should be renamed to,'Speed Can Kill'.
Thers no doubt about it that as a result of bad driving etc etc, travelling at excess speed can and does kill.
What do you think that the slogan should be?
I think the 'Save A Child, Kill Your Speed' is a much better slogan.
Hell, doesn't it make you THINK? If I see one of these it makes me think, maybe some child round here got hit and maybe there's something I'm missing at this moment... hmmmm... better slow down... well perhaps.. whadya think?'
You're right this blanket 'Speed Kills' is just utter nonsense - well, unless the governmantal budget cuts mean the anti-drugs and anti-driving fast departments have been merged.
But on a more serious note, remember that there's another side to this and that is 'kills who? (what?)' - see, to kill oneself, then, well at the end of the day that's really just tough sh1t. The problem arises when you take out some poor unexpecting granny, pregnant mother or 14 year old joy rider that happens to be coming the otherway.
whadya think?
hmmm but maybe it was a dog or cat you hit? Keep this though with you for a moment.
whadya think?
This whole issue of 'speed kills' isn't a problem with speed. It isn't a problem with 'fast cars'. I'd even hazzard a guess that it isn't a problem with careless driving, and (and hahaha I know this is gonna hurt) maybe it isn't even a problem with drunk drivers.
whadya think?
Now hold on. Bear with me here...
There was a time when the biggest worry you had was getting eaten by a dinosaur. Then someone picked up a stick and your next worry was a smashed skull (well, or maybe a broken ankle running from dinosaurs?).
whadya think?
Let me go on?
Its all related to society and the programming we receive about what is good and what is bad.
Rules.
Someone decided that it was a piss poor show to tw4t your neighbour over the head with a log, but, well he's got more sheep than you, ahhh.... but its ok fine for you to drive fast and destroy his sheep dog that you hit.
whadya think?
But where is the difference? - if we are all realy 'worried' about life then surely we'd make an effort to change our behaviour. And probably we'd all be begging the government to bring down the speed limt? No?
In fact we'd all be so worried about the possiblilty that we might hurt someone by driving our TVR so fast that we wouldn't dare drive at a speed that could possibly hurt someone else.
It's a complete farce, life is sacred or life isn't sacred. At all. Which way do you wanna play it? Go to the 3rd World and see just how 'cheap' life can really be.
I've said this in another thread, I think it dropped off the list before anyone read it. 'Our leaders are turning in ever decreasing circles trying to do their best for society - and the only thing they can do is what is best for society - errrm and that'll be make more stupid, petty rules'.
This is not going to change until society changes.
And I know you're all gonna come very heavy on me now for my flippancy but remember this. My mother died in my arms. One of my best friends found his mother dead in a ditch.
Heavy? Yeah, Yeah, And I mean Yeah. But not really. Every time you walk out the door you beocme a targetable statistic.
The sooner we lose this 'I'ts your fault' State that we are adopting the better.
The sooner life in this Western 'civilised' world becomes (as) cheap (as it is in the resst or the world) again the better.
The sooner we lose this 'nanny state the better'.
Yes, I want TrafPol on the road advidising people that you are driving badly.
But finally back to Tony's point - its not the slogans that are wrong its us.
So, bring on you're hedonistic society, I'm ready, are you?
whadya think?
best
