No "speed bumps" are to reduce speed, dependant on the height and width of the humps.

I have always thought that the speed humps should be passable at the Speedlimit on the road... Otherwise they are an obstruction....

Also I think speedhumps should be standardised... there are about 10 on our road and they are all different... Some are tiny and some feel like you are hitting a wall...

I have a general issue with the stupid number of speed bumps...in my street which is less than a quarter mile long, there are 11 to get to my house. That means an ambulance has to go over 22 speed bumps to get a child to hospital in an emergency.....maybe the "save the child" brigade should think of that!

Here is a story about speed bumps that has caused uproar in the local community for a few years (and cost my wife the price of a new exhaust system on her Clio after one of the bumps ripped it off!

I am going to make a point of never buying a house down a road with speed bumps in. It would drive me insane!!!!

Last year, living at halls in uni, there was one HORRIBLE speed bump (the black and yellow, do it yourself jigsaw style) and a couple of OK bumps.

You *had* to slow to a crawl (TVR style) even in my festa in order to get over the bad one without a bang. Drove me nuts, and we complained to try and get it removed, but no luck. The people living there the year before us had taken two of the jugsaw bits out, exactly in the right place to get a pair of car tyres through, but the uni saw to that by gluing the whole thing down

Speed cushions in me Pug can be taken at ANY speed I like. The VX crashes over them at 15mph. I think the council should be sued for vehicle damage.

If more people sued the council for damage to vehicles, suffering discomfort etc, they would soon be ripped up, but as usual - people are happy just moaning to themselves and never actually doing anything about it.

She sued.

Small claims court.

Got the price of a new exhaust and about £150 on top.

Just about covered cost of time off work, taking photos, developing photos etc etc.

But the moral victory was immense!

We have some relly good ones in Southport.

In any normal car you just sraddle your wheels either side of them and and just drive over them. No need to slow down at all.

The numpties and old biddies naturally slow down, and launch one side of their car over them, forcing their car either towards oncoming traffic or towards the pavement.

Clever really.

Not if the humps are a bit high, and the ground clearance a bit low on your car.....

www.abd.org.uk/speed_humps.htm is a good read for those who hate speed humps. Send a copy to your local MP.

ah another case where derbyshire cc screws up.

They also put speed bumps down in a 40 in direct defiance of govt regulations.

what annoys me is they do this with OUR money.

So all they will have to do is Get 1267 people with a speed camera to cover the cost of removing the humps...

As has been said I think that speed humps have to be passable at the speed limit.

As regards tactics for getting over them, I was told on a driving course to acce;erate just before them, this raises the car on the suspension, giving it more travel and thus a smoother ride.

Has the added benefit of annoying those who live by the humps and increases air pollution!

exactly like i said if you do it right at 60 and hit the gas right

1 it dont hurt the car
2 it dont hurt your arss

3 if you lean on the hour to warn oncoming car of the danger of being blinded by your lights. its great rvenge on the muppets that voted for pluss its great fun.
