www.northants.police.uk/rrcsite/index2.htm - go to Home, then information, then anti-speeding.

You can now apply for yellow boards stating "are you speeding?"

The contact to write to in order to borrow the boards is Tony Hickman at Northants council. He has the very unfortunate email address of 'thickman'

(email address as given publicly on website)

Edited cos I didn't check the link!!! Well done to those who found it!

Nice to see that it's listed specifically as 'anti-speeding', as opposed to anything to do with road safety.

Mind you, if they're for use in 30 zones, it doesn't seem unreasonable...

Well, it's a futile gesture at the tax-payers expense and causes visual pollution. Seems unreasonable to me.

Is it legal to post these signs willy-nilly on lamp posts on the Queens highway?

Dunno but, from the bottom of that page, ". Boards should never be placed on existing speed limit signs as this invalidates the speed regulation order."
O.K. Northants PHs, Britain demands that everyone do their duty.

Just emailed this to Thickman, awaiting response, if any.

Why are you advocating these pointless yellow signs, all you are doing is distracting drivers yet again from the road and any danger that may be present. When the first fatal accident happens I'm sure you'll be the first to say it was caused due to speeding yet all accidents are caused by poor driving or as in this case a distraction. This is no better than one of the Gossard type advertising boards that are so often taken down as they cause a distraction. If your argument is they do not cause a distraction then it mean people aren't noticing them, so they are therefore a waste of time & money as well as being visual eyesores.

Why don't instead put the money you are wasting on this pointless campaign towards improving the quality of the roads, as potholes and poor road surfaces cause more accidents, injuries and fatalities than any speeding ever has.

Yours completely frustrated yet again by Northamptonshire's Anti-driver campaign.

I can't believe they have provided a method of escaping fines.

Just get a ticket, get one of these signs out of your boot, cover up the speed limit sign, take a photo...

I don't think you have to cover it up. I think the point that they are making is that it makes a non-prescribed sign. I'm not saying it does / doesn't, just that I think that's the point they are making. Just to be sure, make sure that it is adjacent (no spaces); thus making it integral, via the yellow backing board. Backing boards must be rectangular in shape. Hehe.

After the 'Slower traffic but deaths rise' local headline the fact that they're pressing ahead with this sort of crap shows just what a bunch of tossers we now seem to have running things.

Never mind a petition, I'm increasingly beginning to think we need a sodding revolution.
