Over six months ago I received a letter for exceeding the speed limit in wales and sent it back unsigned. It was returned and stated that it was partially filled in so I should sign it and return. I duly informed them that I had complied with the necessary details only and returned the form back to them. Now six months later I have heard nothing. Can they still chase me since six months has expired and I am sure I heard of the policeman and the wrong coloured signs being let off due to the time it took to bring the case to court?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it took the police 8 months to follow up a NIP. I thought I'd got away with it...............

Ahhh... but you should have challenged it. For speeding / failure to supply they have six months from the offence to lay the papers with the court. Note the summons can be sent after this, but the papers have to be with the court.
I don't know, but I would imagine that the date of the offence for the S172 (failure to supply) is 28 days after the NIP was posted.
