I have just witnessed the most horrific sight.

In a household not too far from here, lives a person who I know likes a beer (often see them mid-morning with a can of Tennents in hand)

I heard a car sturggling to get into a drive (high revs, crunching gear changes)

Looked out of window, saw this person struggling to lock the car door (bent down next to door handle... I assumed has having difficulty with the key)

When they stood up, they could not walk in a straight line... in fact fell over twice in the 30 feet between car and house front door.

I find the whole thing sickening bearing in mind this incident happened mid-afternoon (around the time that the schools kick out) in a suburban area with three schools (two junior, one secondary) and at least three nurserys/pre-school clubs within a one mile radius.

Disuss.

Tell the police what you've seen and they may keep a look out for said car in future.

Send a letter to you local BiB office (cos they cannot ignore that) about where said fool can be found when off his head when driving.

You may feel like you are dobbing a mate in but how would you feel if he mowed a bus Q down?

OK bus Q is not the right image.

A line of expectant women waiting for a taxi to the delivery suite. Thats better.

One over the limit is a mistake but falling over drunk says ' you all, I'm gonna kill ya'.

There is definately a big difference between a person having a pint with friends and someone who has had about 10 pints and has trouble sitting upright whilst attempting to drive.

I wouldnt recommend either whilst about to drive.

If he reported it to the police, what would they do? There's no proof.

Just before Christmas there was a campaign to shop a DD - and collect £500 (after successful prosecution) - think that's still on-going.
Don't know the number though.

Using this logic - do nothing then. Walk away and do nothing. Same thing if you see a druggie mugging a granny. Do nothing. Then you have an easy life and none of these as*holes ever get near to a police station.

Do your duty man! At least ring up your local station and tell them what you've seen! Next time he might take out a child in the road...

Drink driving is one of my pet hates, I work in a pub where I see so many people turn up, have 5 or 6 pints and then drive off again

Also at a party last night a few of my m8s were totally bladdered and still drinking at 2:30am, one was driving to work at 6am, the other was driving from Ipswich to Surrey at 11 the next day

Personally I think one alcoholic drink is too much to drive. I know the legal limits differ, and I know people handle alcohol differently but I personally don't think it is worth the risk at all.

You should send a letter to the police and inform them of what you say. As you say they have no proof, but they might put his car on the records and stop him next time...

As for people saying about speeding, grow up. We can fight as much as we want against the persicution of the motorist but drink/drug driving is a very dangerous thing and should be treated as such. No matter what your beliefs!

I think there should be a zero tolerance policy on DD, then people know where they stand, (except perhaps the morning after ??). There should be some recognised calibrated system to measure blood alcohol level people can use at home as a check. Same goes for drug users.

The question of "should I drive ?" or "should I have another one" is all too easily influenced by the beer monster, Merlot monster or whatever. One pint leads to two, two to three etc, and then the decision to drive, becomes a question of "shall I take the risk ?". The aforementioned beer monster is always way too optimistic, when it comes to ones own, singing, dancing, girl chatting and driving abilities, and "after all it's not far anyway.."

I went to the funeral of a friend last week, and afterwards we retired to his favourite pub to toast his onward journey. Everyone else was drinking and was on their third pint when I left and were all driving. They were not young kids, but aged 30-50 with good cars, good jobs, most of whom rely on having a license to work, but they're all apparently immune to the effects of alcohol. Crazy ! The number of people who say "Go on just have one.., you'll be OK". I may be, but that child on the zebra crossing better watch out..

Yup ... drink driving is one of my "hot buttons" too. You don't "accidentally" have a drink and I know some people think "well I'm still under the limit so I'm OK" not knowing whether they are or not.

I *REALLY* wish that they would bring in a zero alcohol limit for driving then there would be no confusion as to whether one for the road is one too many...

Years ago a mate of mine had an accident on the way to work one morning. The bloke who was to blame and ran into him was an alcoholic and was pi55ed, the BIBs turned up and smelt booze on him so they breathalised both drivers (probably have to if you do one, don't know). My mate and I had been out the night before(by cab cos we don't drink and drive) and had quite a few and he was still over the limit. He was no way drunk or impaired the morning after - did not stop him from getting done for DD though. Would never support a zero limit after seeing that.

That's my pet hate... people who don't understand how long it takes for you to recover from a night on the pop. It's something like an hour per unit of alcohol for the body to get rid, so eight pints takes 16 hours to get out your system.

Whether you think it impairs your driving or not, your mate was still over the limit so half a gold star for getting a taxi the night before, but kick up the a**e for being a bit cocky the morning after...

Bit difficult to have a zero tolerance as sherry trifle, night nurse or mouth wash would put you over the limit.

Well I suppose I can get a bit cocky over this one because I don't drink... ;-)

Diet Coke as pretty much as far as I go!
