A friend of mine has just received a summons to court for handbraking his car on a supermarket car park - being watched by a unmarked Omega! Doh! He already has 3 points for speeding and as he is 18, if he gets any more he is banned! What do you suggest! (P.S. yes, he is the typical young lad - £40 Astra, handpainted with silly spoilers!) Any help appreciated!

I think that any place that is accessable(sp) to the public ie supermarket carparks is covered by road traffic law.
What is the charge on the summons??
The only problem is that the omega almost definately has video. So has a nice recording of the offence, and if he tries to contend it they could show the tape of your mate handbraking his motor round a carpark to the courts.
All he could do is beg for mercy and plead circumstances such as time of the offence ie midnight, no other cars or property around (assuming it was just him and not a load of his mates in other cars) Oh and preying may be a good idea.
There maybe some peeps here who can give suggestions but if hes on tape then hes getting points it's just the number of points he could try to reduce. Ie try to get the charges reduced from wreckless or dangerous driving to not in full control of the vehical or due care and attention.
Sorry its not much positive help

What is the offense that, according to the summons, he has been charged with?

Dont wish to be a "holier than thou" arsehole here, but what is the point of doing handbrake turns in a carpark anyway??????

Maybe he needs a short time off driving to consider not doing stuff like that.

Really fks me off when the car park bandits do this kind of sh!t that only really appeals to the land of the prepubescent.

rant over!

Yeah - that's a road or public place one. He could try argueing that strictly speaking that carpark is not a public place if the supermarket is closed, but if it's open or there is another reason for people to visit at that time (ATM's etc) he's shafted.

Incidentally, there is stated case somewhere of a public order act conviction vs a motorist who pulled a hbt and scared the crap outta other people using the cp. A silver lining then
