Just a general question - what do the BiB normally do when they pull over a driver for speeding and they produce an overseas license (such as from New Zealand or South Africa etc) with a valid international license?

Is it a case of just a fine and no points lost? Are licenses confiscated? Is the whole thing too much hassle and they get let off with a warning? Just curious. What happens if a scamera van takes a pic of a car and the registered owner has a foreign license and not a uk one? Just a fine and no points lost?

Cheers,

In the seventies my mum had one from the United Arab Emirates, it was all in Arabic with just her photo the only recognisable thing. Her Corvette also had Arabic plates too. I have great memories as a kid of her always being pulled for speeding and getting let off. Once she was stopped because she unknowingly had her hazards on, the officer asked where the hazard was? Your looking at it she replied, and burnt rubber!

I know New Zealand and the UK have recently signed an agreement to process and forward on all fines within each others countries and citizens. However, the tip i was given (by friend who is police officer in NZ) was if you get booked in NZ pay the fine in NZ as the numbers stay the same when transfered to the UK if you choose to pay in the UK .....300$ here = 300 pound in UK(its actually nearer a 100 pound at exchange rate)...if that makes any sence!!!

If there is no specific SI in force here and NZ equivt there this is some administrative conveneience /scam. If you don't agree to cough up in the country you are being pestered in then they'd have to extradite you, which you can also fight.

If you are here and never want to go back to NZ then tell them to shove it

If you do then confuse the issue by asking for evidence etc. The cut the UK make is going to be too small to justify the hassle so they'll just give up.

It goes without saying that you've been stopped on the roadside and your identity as a driver has been identified.
If it's a scamera...why bother with real names?

According to the BIB down here thats not the case.A speeding offence will be followed up by the UK BIB,you do not have to be extradited. He showed me the most recent memo with the procedures on it....it looked all clear cut from their point of view and it did state an alliance between NZ and the UK!
Having said that, not heard yet of anyone been followed through, but i'll ask him next time i see him.

When I was a passenger in a car being driven by a Spnaish friend who I worked with in North Wales, we got pulled for about 85 in a 70 and tailgating (cars had bunched up when they saw a marked volvo) - this Spanish guy just keeps going and was suprised when he gets pulled over a mile down the road.

He wasn't at all bothered - just claimed his English was very poor - the cop just gave up after about 5 minutes and told me to tell him not to speed - I also denied speaking English
