OK - so a white envelope arrived in the post today.

alleged offence of Excess Speed (40MPH Limit) on 03/09/2003 at 08:060 hours at Westway j/w Bentworth Rd E/B W12 (7926). 0604

etc etc etc

OK - so a few questions
1. Is there anything in this that says how fast I was going? (and is that good or bad)
2. What on earth does 7926 and 0604 mean?
3. I am assuming that W12 is as per a postcode and that E/B is eastbound.

What's worse is that I got another envelope at the same time with a bill from the taxman for £2200+ and some odd pence at the same time...and its their bloody mistake - but thats another story.

Due to the incidence of cloning etc I have asked for the evidence so I can tell whether it actually is my car or not before I fill in any damned NIP (or not).

One of the posters on this board is the guy who was sitting in the van who recorded your speed. Goes by the handle of Will Crash. According to him anyone who didn't see his van must be a blind numpty who can't see beyond the end of their bonnet. The threshold speed is apparently about 56 mph so it must be more than that.

Look here for exactly where it is:-

www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=523000&Y=181000&width=500&height=300&client=public&gride=522997&gridn=181074&keepicon=false&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=Bentworth+Road&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&scale=25000&in.x=4&in.y=9

So a rough summary would be they clocked you going into London early in the morning. Oh, and it is for your own safety. They are out there, and they are out to get you.

I got the photos today - looks like my car.

There are three photos:
Photo 1: A Closeup wityh a very visible number plate - no Gatso information
Photo 2: Standard Photo with the following Gatso Info:
"000+058=058 "
"Time & Date "
"100037926020 "
Photo 3:Stabdard photo following on from the Number 2
"Gatsometer "
"Time & Date "
"0.5 Sec. 020 "

Now - can anyone help me interpret these. I am guessing that the relavent speed is on photo 2 and indicates 58mph - but can anyone confirm that?

I have a good idea. Now I just have to consider whether I am going to get pissy on principle.......

If *you* were the driver, then you should pay up and get the points. Anybody suggesting otherwise, is committing conspiracy to pervert the course of justice (there are do-gooders here, too!)

But if you're not sure, then it's different - try to be helpful with the law, but if they don't have clear faceshots....well, tough.

But what about our Civic duty and responsibility to object if we think that the Law is unjust and unfair?

And look at the thread http://213.52.163.118/gassing/topic.asp?t=58469&f=10&h=0

In particular the quotes which put it far better than I ever could.
