Depressingly it seems just one bad accident on a given stretch of road is sufficient for the LA to lower the speed limit.
Obviously over time, whatever the limit is, there will be a serious accident on any stretch of road, the speed limits will be continually reduced. A few more years and it will be 30 or less everywhere!

When you think about it an accident where speed was a factor shouldn't count if the speed was over the NSL, as irrespective of the speed limit the person would have been speeding. So where the NSL is in force and there is a speed related accident that accident should only cause he speed limit to drop if the speed was between 50 and 60

NSL will soon be obsolete with this Labour Government in power. Expect to see NSL reduced to 50MPH on all single carriageway roads within 5 years.

Worse still is that I can see the MOTORWAY speed limit being reduced to 50mph within 5 years while this bunch of tossers are in power...

Why nick someone for doing 80mph in a 70mph when you can nick them for doing 80mph in a 60/50/40/30mph? What is wrong with you, think of the extra people that can be caught, think of the larger fines that can be had. It's all about safety - trust me!

Vote Labour.

I think I will be joining you in the fields & valleys. Seen some nice landies on landroverman.com and with the impending 50mph M25, it makes perfect sense. Even monster mudders will be ok at 50.

FFS, here I am getting ready for 50mph.

We've sunk low as a country. This is absurd.

one of my best runs out has magically sprouted 2 sets of 40 zones. There are half a doz houses set way back from the road in the middle of nowhere, clear open roads.

I often was doing 80 now its a 40, so before if I was cought then 80 in a 60 is not too bad, but now 80 in a 40 Is porrige time or a ban.

It is getting hard to find NSL roads in the South now. Any form of house, or lane joining another road = a 40

OH NO! don't move up norf, stay down sarf where you belong!

More ppl=more houses=more 40s where there used to be NSL. We have enough 40s appearing without you lot moving up here and cluttering the place up too.

It allready is here in parts of Essex. Roads (single carrigway) that used to be NSL have been reduced to 50 mph on a "casualty reduction scheme"
