A3 Scamera Van - RIGHT NOW - a fighting chance

Spotted a Scamera van on the A3 today not far past "World of Golf", on the way into London.
Interestingly, the van was very clearly marked (the whole of the rear was chevroned), in a fairly sensible place (i.e. giving you plenty of time to spot it), and most interestingly had its mobile camera set up at the front of the van, catching motorists after they have passed it (from behind) - thus giving you a fighting chance of slowing down!
It could of course have been catching drivers coming towards them on the opposite carriageway, but it looked ill positioned for that.
