How do you stand on this type of figure I thought that speedo's were +/-10%, so should not the ticket go to the manufacturers. If you have already taken reasonable steps and kept to 70 say on the speedo, any errors hence are outwith your control or knowledge. Or is this all pap as per usual .

oh c'mon,74mph..m1....what was he reported for?....obstructing a rep in the pursuit of his meeting?

this has got to be a joke, unless the guy doing 74 was doing it in reverse or the wrong way up the m1.

I always thought manufactures tolerance is only to overead. They are not suppose to sell you a car with a speedo that reeds LESS than what you are actually doing so they all over read a little.

Is this still the case?

BTW 74 in a 70?
Load of cr@p that. (i hope!)

Technically, even 71 in a 70 is a criminal offence, isn't?

How about doing something about stupid laws instead of wingeing about those who enforce them?

Just an idle thought really...

I was reporting the words of a magistrate.

He was Truvelo'd and managed to speak to someone who works in the ticket office, in order to query the camera trigger setting (he considered he was below the ACPO threshold).

The ticket office bod knew he was a magistrate and said the batch he processed with my mate's ticket included an M1 at 74.

No mention was made of roadworks or car/lorry. I'll ask my mate if this could be the case. Watch this space.................

Update

My mate the magistrate has rechecked the story.

The speed was 78 on the M1. No roadworks, and the victim works in the Court.

I reckon that's about as concrete as it gets.

I work at a british car manufacturing factory where I check the vehicles actual calibration of speedometers (and am not at liberty to disclose the actual figures), but I can tell you there is a tolerance used to check the actual rolling road's master guage and the actual tested vehicles reading. There is quite a degree of error allowed by law (all manufacturers have to meet government guidelines).
