Question in the thread title prompted by seeing four cars on the way to work, (quiet-ish rural roads btw) where the high level brake light was the only stop light working. I would infer from that it has been some time since the lights on those vehicles have been checked.

One of those is admittedly a neighbour who sees me check my lights all the way round every morning and the penny still hasn’t dropped.

I give up!

It should be every morning - as you say. Most of us check 'em once a week or so I imagine...

The one that really worries me is that no-one checks their tyre pressures...

Actually I have lights and tyres done once a week and fluids and mechanicals (brakes, shocks etc) done once a month.

Every day.

I reverse my car into my garage, and we just so happen to be storing some old bedroom furiture in there.

There is a huge wardrobe with floor to ceiling mirrors on it at the back of my garage, so when putting the car away there is always a quick check of brake lights and reversing lights. (About once a month I actually do check the whole lot properly....)

Fluids - probably once a month

Tyre pressures - at the same time as the fluids check

Oil - Once a week (I do a HUGE number of miles!)

Edited to add fluid/tyre pressures etc

I check the tyres once a week or so... but being a Merc there's a warning light on the dash for everything from low washer fluid to engine on fire

My mechanic checks everything when the car goes in for a service.

(A deliberately numpty answer, but I bet it applies to a fair few out there - not PH'ers of course )

Check the front side/main/high beam on the garage door before I put it away in the evening, and I've got a couple of number plate sized metal plates propped either side of the garage door to check the rears. Not properly reflective, but from inside the car you can see them in the wing mirrors and pick up the glow from the side/brake/fog/reverse lights. So I check all these lights most days without really thinking about it. Don't bother checking indicators as you can always tell from the flash speed when they've gone.

One of the more useful features of my Alfa 156 is a light which tells you if any of your bulbs are inoperative. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't have a warning light to alert you that your inoperative light warning light is inoperative!

Check brake lights daily by looking at reflections in shop windows when in a jam.
