Speed limiters
Discussion
He's at it again, the Chief Cons. of North Wales. Claims limiters are already in use in parts of Europe, is this right?

Takes a look at www.cybertrucker.co.uk for the anti-speed limiter argument. They argue that they've caused many accidents on lorries/coaches.
Yes, I listened to the interview on 5live this morning. Totally frightening and disheartening to learn that the Police, in cahoots with HMG, are trying to make speeding as anti-social as drink driving, within a time frame of 10 years, using increased sanctions against speed. ie larger fines, increased numbers of speed cameras etc. How can we fight this unholy alliance, which is totally misguided, and addresses only one of a complex multifactorial elements of road injuries and deaths?

Well I'm going to fight it by p155ing off to Australia because I've had enough of the b0110x we face here...
Australia: wonderful place. Used to live there.
In the cities the cops are more serious about speeding than they are here! And even hundreds of miles from anywhere - there can be a mobile speed trap.
Still. Way out there. How are they going to know?
On a more serious note, just read the peice about speed limiters affecting road safety - I definately agree about the hypnotising effect of the engine noise! I used to have a summer job as a driver's mate for a delivery company, and sitting on the motorway you did find that you started to drift off after a while - the drivers used to say I was a great drivers mate, as I'm really chatty (well, never shut up actually
), they needed something to stopt them dozing off!!! Scary when you think that the drivers need a distraction to keep them alert!

I don't have all the facts but chasing a few links on this and came across this www.cfit.gov.uk/mf/membership/index.htm
Wonder why the W.I. have a place here?

Voluntarily speed limiters are fitted by German manufacturers as standard so yes they are in use in parts of Europe. Its just there set at 155mph![]()
A german told me that BMW ( I think it was ) started to fit limiters in order to keep the No Speed Limit on the Autobahn as people were complaining that BMW, Merc etc.. were going toooo fast. Is this true ?
BBC have started a "Talking Point Forum" on it at

oh god.
When are they going to f**k off and let us get on with driving. Mofo government has its head ups its arse and the rest of the country can see it, so why are they so f**king stupid?
Ooops sorry - I've been driving in London recently, and without my Geo, I'd be crapping myself. You spend more time looking at your goddamn speedo than the road, 'cos of some poxy gatsos. Very easy to crash into someone, or them to crash into you. HATE THIS MADNESS.

I posted something.
Remember to use a nice catchphrase that the idiot media types think is cool or your post won't get included - whichever way (good idea or bad idea) your opinion might be.
I went for "Nanny State Nonsense" - come up with your own. Don't let the tree huggers get yet another petty victory in their fight against freedom.

I think Merc BMW and Audi made a gentlemens agreement to fit them to keep the greens quiet , Jaguar also fits them , but they are easy to disable (so i am told)

More bullshit from political as opposed to real-life cops! Yes governors are fitted to umpteen BMWs, Mercs, Audis, but only to limit them to 250kph! this is to "protect" the engine according to Audi. These can all be removed by the driver as IT IS ILLEGAL in europe to limit a car to a speed limit. EC court case in 1998 threw out the wishes of Sweden to limit all vehicles to 90kph by bullshit pinko barstewards. Reason: an infringement of basic human rights! (also a possible CAUSE of accidents! even the Swedes ran for cover when they received that judgemment (and a more nanny-state than S you can't find!)
My vituperations on the BBC site may be published, if not one, can see the PC Censor at work!!!! again!!!
The reason that the new Bentley is the 'fastest production saloon in the world' at only 165mph is that VW do not abide by the 155mph/250kph 'gentlemens agreement' that BMW/Audi/Mercedes do - otherwise the M3, M5, E55 would have 180mph top speeds!
Neither do Porsche BTW!
Although it was ridiculously easy to bypass my M5's limiter with a re-chip!
