police statements

i'm up in court at the end of the month for a speeding offence (the 96 in a 60 at 2am thread!)
just wondering, wot type of information does the police officer dealing with the offence put in his statement to the court , or does the court just get the speed and road information?
If its a not guilty hearing then it will contain the following-
Everything should be in there including, his location at the time of offence, your location, traffic conditions, visibility, type of device used and when calibrated etc, your speed including time taken and distance of check itself.
For a guilty hearing then it will be the briefest of facts read out by the CPS.

outlaw: I didn't want to like you at first 'cos of your background. But I'm glad I didn't let my prejudice get in the way. YOur writings make me laugh (for good reasons) and your observations are plain and refreshing after some of the replies I have read here. Good on you - and speaking "from on the fence" of legality, I trust your opinions. And yeah, I'd buy yer a pint if I met you. Fellow Pistonheads, much as outlaw is probably the opposite of the respected BiB on this site - he's well worth a listen, even if you might callit cynical !!!!!!
cheers dude!

no, i'm pleading guilty cos i'm a honest chap and just want it out of the way, i'm just going to represent myself.
somehow, i don't think honesty pays anymore - so i'm sure they'll rod me good and proper.
sorry mate, didn't mean to overlook your post.
You may get lucky and get away with 3 or 4 pts. I think at the stage you are at, the only hope is to get it over with. Try not to panic - I doubt you'll get a ban. Next time tho', go the "not sign" route, it works - trust me on this. Best of luck.

well my personaly i would bother going if your pleading guilty.
but thats just me personal i wouldent plead guilt if i got court with a smoking sawnoff in on hand and the cash in the other and was standing in the bank with a hole in the celling.
when it comes to motoring they like to clear them quick at the court and colect the tax easy.
me personaly, I like to go along and caus em as much hassel as posible.
from experiance the best time to go to court is if you aint got
all. as they can really get
all then. i once even signed off the dole when up, that screwed them up.
when ask what my income was, i could say absolutly
all. how about a couple of shirt buttons. and so you can have
allsounds like abreach of the data protection act too me
serously in every case iv been invovled it they hav been blatent lies in neally all the statments.
even when the havent been needed.
the latest batch was a great work of fiction 3 bibs gave the PCA to get out a fausle aresst complaint.

tonyrec said:tonyrec (and other BiB on here) - I have the highest regard for honest coppers, and I have met a good many in my time in various countries. However I have seen and heard many statements in the UK that commit the sin of omission (rather than commission). An issue then arises when the officer swears to tell, "the whole truth" when they know their evidence to be less than that. The same applies also to witnesses (for both sides) who are 'coached' to be selective in their responses. Of course, a good advocate should be able to extract the majority of the truth by careful questioning, but sometimes it does not get that far - for whatever reason - leaving dis-satisfaction (on one or both sides) in its wake.
Obviously you get all sorts of people in every occupation but i certainly wouldnt risk losing my job to get a conviction.........just not worth it.
There is also the matter of 'perception'. No two are alike. The 'issue' that commonly emerges is that the (written) record made by police officers is usually taken by the courts - particularly the Magistrates Courts - to be (a) contemporaneous (when often it is not) and, (b) accurate (when it too is affected by the officer's perception of the situation and of the way the 'perp' deals with being stopped - as per comments posted elsewhere on here).
Thus, outlaw's tonyrec's (no offence guys) 'evidence' and perception in any particular instance are likely to be at variance with those of others involved - but, may be just as accurate from their standpoint as those of other's are from their standpoint.
It has been said that there is no monopoly on the truth ... how true!
On a lighter note, I once read through voluminous evidence compiled by the USAF in regard to a famed hacking case. The 'sin of omission' here related to large tracts of the print-out of the accused's hard disk that were marked (by the USAF) "Deleted in the Interests of National Security". According to the accused and supported by other evidence, the majority of the deleted text referred to UFOs

No, I don't mind if the police bend the rules. I think if you're one hundred percent certain who the crooks are. (And I think most BIB could name a few without needing to look at their notepads)
You get them any which way your concience will allow you. I think crooks should be targeted. Some call that harrassment, I call it only the crook equivalent of speed cameras.

Outlaw - i'd be intrigued to know your 'background' as Hertsbiker called it - i've seen you mention 'boosting cars' in another thread and wasnt sure if you were joking. Im not interested so that I can judge you, i've already drawn my own conclusions as to whether i 'like you' or not (like Hertsbiker, id happily buy you a pint mate), im just........well....nosey
