Working for the police?

I'm looking at joining the Police and am currently going through the process to join W.Mids or Staffordshire or W.Mercia. Fancy a more different type of job that i've been doing up untill now (office based). So any police officers out there who can give any advice of what it's really like what i can expect the 'real' shift pattens?

Looking at a lot of the posts from police on here, I would imagine dealing with muppets & lots & lots of paperwork!
