Just heard this amusing story....

"Four youths from Canberra, Australia pulled off a trick of breathtaking bravado in order to gain revenge on a mobile speed camera van operating in the area.

Three of the group approached the van and distracted the operator's attention by asking a series of questions about how the equipment worked and how many cars the operator could catch in a day. Meanwhile, the fourth musketeer sneaked to the front of the van and unscrewed its numberplate.

After bidding the van operator goodbye, the friends returned home, fixed the number plate to their car and drove through the camera's radar at high speed - 17 times. As a result, the automated billing system issued 17 speeding ticketrs to itself."

Go Aussies!!

Do you have a link, or some other verufication?
I'm not doubting you, I'd just like some verification before quoting it.

I posted this a while ago with the link I think but I had my doubts about it as well.

Still it isn't hard to do as "friends"of mine in a certain type car club take the plates off govt vehicles to help raise some revenue for said govt

Wouldn't it be shocking if someone did that with Mr Brunstrom's number-plate? Wouldn't it be more shocking if a lot of people did it? And not just in North Wales, but all over the country? It would be terrible!

And (as posted elsewhere), wouldn't it be shocking if people walked in and out of the London Congestion Charging Zone with someone elses' number-plate on their back. Terrible!

It's a good job that PH readers are all law-abiding citizens!

A mate of mine in Perth (WA) sent me the same story a few weeks ago. He was quoting some aussie newspaper which I can't remember the title of.

Could you give me a pointer to the thread? I imagine walking around holding a numberplate is not an offence?

It's much easier to simply write the plate down and pay someone 20 squid to make one up for you.....

Not as much fun though.
