Traffic Signals in London- Controlled by Mayor
Discussion
I dont know if this has been raised before but here goes.
Free flow of Traffic in the Capital is controlled ultimately by the Mayor, Mr Livingstone.
It is an absolute fact that the signals themselves had their phasing altered on the run up to the introduction of the Congestion Charge and i noticed (as well as yourselves) that the traffic queues were 3 times the size in the rush hour periods.
Traffic signals that were designed to be run on a partime basis were working during the day and being turned off at night.
Since the introduction of the charge, there has been a decrease of traffic entering the Capital- Fact. The roads are a lot less congested but on the outside, roads are getting more clogged up with people parking at or near Tube Stations in an effort to avoid the charge.
The point of this post is to highlight that the Police are not involved, we have to get authority to now turn signals off....but my personal feeling is that the Mayor will now have to introduce another form of taxation/alter the rules of the charge because he is not getting as much revenue as he first thought.
On another thought, this new toll road on the M6 is in my opinion a total disgrace.
For years, motorists have suffered, sitting in traffic for hours on end because of unsuitable roads and what do the Government do in response.
Yes youve guessed right, build another to aleviate the traffic flow but if you want to use it then you will have to pay up or just sit on the congested road.
Rant is now over....and im off to get ready for work!

Why use the M6 toll - just use the A50 instead!
Seconded! All my football related north west trips now revolve around the A50 instead of the M6. There's seldom any traffic on it, no cameras, and best of all you don't have to look at Birmingham.

There's an article on "the register" about how fubar'd the congestion charging contract is.

Its an iteresting one this, I assume the police will still have to police the toll road - ambulance/firecrews attend it etc, so will the company running the road be paying for these services??? or will the great british tax payer be providing them free of charge.
I always think the same about football games etc where the event organisor should pay for the required level of policing for their event.

Interesting point, I also believe, that it is wrong for the taxpayer to foot the bill for the policing of football crowds. Frustrating that there are insufficient officers on duty to provide proper policing in the majority of circumstances, yet the Met can find 000's of officers to attend football matches. If the football clubs paid the full cost of policing their games, perhaps they would have less to pay the illiterate thugs who can’t handle the fame and fortune.

Personally I think Livingstone should be put in Jail, thats where thieves should be and he is one of the biggest in the country at the mo.
Lets tax all the people that drive into London,as if they had alternatives, lets face the public transport system is so reliable isn't it!!!
Don't know where you would stand on the Speeding on a toll road issue, you can get done in france but i think their government runs them.
