I've got one.

The way the Road Angel works is it checks your position and direction of travel with a database of scameras and possible scamera van sites. It does not detect the scamera or the vans.

People like you and me update the database. When we see a location that we need to warn other Road Angel users about, there's a series of button presses that will store the location and the type of revenue-making site (Fixed/mobile/SPECS etc). Once we connect the Road Angel back to our PCs, we can send our new information back to Road Angel, who verify it and then make the info accessible to the other users - who need to download the new data.

Therefore there's a fundamental flaw, if you're the first person to find the scamera or scamera van location (like you may have done), you'll probably get caught.

hi

the road angel now comes with the Laser Guard unit so mobile units can now be detected.

If you don't have a laser guard you can buy them for £39 I think from Road Angel directly

I have previously discussed this with Road Angel and they told me they do not store the locations of regular mobile trap sites. I think they should, as should the other GPS systems.

You would also need the laser detector fitting and hope the RA would detect scatter from the laser being fired at vehicles ahead of you. If laser is fired at your vehicle, no detector can save you; only a jammer would do that.

Are laser jammers legal? I told my brother I was thinking of getting one and he seemed to think there's some offence involved with 'interfering' with signal output from scam-vans...?

You can sell them, buy them, install them... you just aren't allowed to turn them on

I believe Road Angel has accident black spot warning......

Anywhere a mobile unit is frequently must be an accident blackspot......

Road Angel actually flashes up "Mobile" warnings, so I think whoever you spoke to at Blackspot was mistekn.

Re laser detection

I believe 2 readings are taken. The lowest one is the one they have to use.

There is a gap of a few seconds between each reading so there's a chance you can slow down.

Jammers
The Blinder really does work - I've had mine tested and it jammed it all the way up to about 60meters.

Best one is the Blinder Extreme

Well they were quite specific in two e-mails and said they would not log mobile sites because they could not guarantee a full nationwide database.

Their web site says the "Mobile" function is for temporary Gatsos in road works or *user-known* mobile laser sites.

So they don't share the user-known sites with other owners via their data-base. The "Mobile" warning will just remind you of the sites you have entered yourself. That information will not be passed to others.

Why don't we ask 'em again?

Me again.

Just found the response I had from Blackspot/Road Angel. I asked why they did not share the mobile trap locations across UK. This is what they wrote;

I agree they would be useful. However because we do not have national coverage it would mislead customers into thinking that we had them.

This is the reason we have provided the option to store your own locations
into the Road Angel.

If you added them to your Road Angel they remain personal to yourself and do
not get added to the database.

Regards

Matt

I was lead to believe that when you connected to up the PC and downloaded/uploaded information, this would give you an up-to-date site location, including all the personally input ones. Obviously not.
