Beggar's belief this one..

Police Officer (Kidlington in Oxford) giving instruction about firearms picks up a Magnum (not sure if .357 or .44) hand gun, aims it at one of the class and pulls the trigger...

BANG!! ...its loaded!

Blimey, golden rules of playing with firearms: -

1. Never point ANY weapon in jest
2. Always check if its loaded ...hmn...tricky

Apparently this training session was held by fully trained firearms officers!!...or maybe not in this case....

I seriously had to read this TWICE before I realised this is a true story.

Surely that's just the basic, natural, never do anything what so ever;

1) point a gun, loaded or not, at anybody. at all. ever.

You just don't. surely?!

You know I've seen folk in the military booted out and careers ended for less than this!

It is totally unbelievable! I just cannot comprehend how a so called 'trained' firearms officer is so blatantly STUPID and THICK!

You wonder if there's more to it. Something so fundamentally basic, especially to someone who has the authority to have guns around kids, to do such a thing is just - well, wrong. I can't believe it.

Also, if he pointed it at someone and pulled the trigger, is there someone with a big hole in them?

Where did you hear this?

A Magnum of any calibre would be a very unusual weapon for a British police officer to be in posession of.

A civilian controller was wounded, assuming the OP refers to the incident that happened last May? Firearm was a Glock pistol.

Ok if it was a glock (9mm)

I read somewhere (after falling off my chair) that it was a magnum...maybe not then...

STILL

the utter recklessness and stupidity applies to any firearm.

“A shot ran out and one of the class was shot in the stomach from fairly close range,”
(although I presume the shot rang out and not ran out)

No doubt the Daily Mail has it as an A10 missile and the Sun a 10 megaton bomb, but the fundamentals at least are agreed on - that the officer was a mentalist.

You NEVER NEVER point the gun at something you are not willing to destroy, regardless if the gun is on safe, with a round racked into the chamber or not, weather theres a magazine in there, weather the moving parts dont work. YOU NEVER DO IT. I have seen countless PMC's get booted out and returned without being paid for violating this rule.

Secondly, when you pick up a firearm from a desk, or recieve one from someone else, the FIRST THING YOU DO is point in a safe direction, and check to see its loaded.

If it was a glock (Standard issue police sidearm), then after checking its safe, you remove magazine (if it has one), depress the trigger and release the slide, so even if you do manage to get a round in there, you will have to cock it to fire it.

Quite clearly bks. Nobody gets blown across the room when shot by any gun.

Hi smile

Depends on the gun and the type of round....a 20 gauge shotgun would...so would a Dragunov....and some others with unusual ammo...but anything that did that would kill the person as the Hydrostatic shock would be too much to survive....

All the best Brett smile

.44 (although not the gun used) could. Try with a Talon round. All the force transferred to the target. Round stops in you having opened out to mince everything in its path.

What with every action having an equal and opposite reaction, if the person shot was blown across the room so would the person who fired to gun.

Getting 'blown across the room' by the bullet is codswallop.

There was a story on here a while back were a local Police Firearms unit were invited to a Club'sPrivate shooting range. Apart from the fact it became fairly obvious that they were at best mediocre shots. One put a bullet though his foot!!!!!
