Got home tonight to a letter from Hampshire Constabulary...

"A file of evidence has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, recommending that criminal proceedings be taken against the person(s) we believe to be responsible.

If you are required to attend Court, we will notify you. You will also be informed of the outcome of the case in due course."

Hopefully that's more than just a standard fob-off....

the plod have sent it too the cps wanting to run it.

the cps take the final desiition.

if its yes or tor court they go.

your sould only have to go to court If they plead not guilty.

Well it certainly looks like the description I gave of him in conjunction with the description I gave them of the car (and I had my wife write down the index of the car at the time too) must have been enough for them.

I have to say that I'd pretty much given up on them doing anything given that we've had no contact whatsoever from Hampshire constabulary up until yesterday - they had said that they would contact my wife for a statement but they never did - perhaps the guy has done it before and has been in trouble for it previously. Who knows? Would be very interested to know what this "file of evidence" actually contains.

Well there still has to be something come of it for it to be a "result" for me however *assuming* that it's not just a "oh we'd better tell him something so that he thinks we're doing something about it" then I'm glad that they have taken it seriously enough to follow it up.

I've got to admit that I'm a lot more wary now when people approach my car when I'm stationary.

Unlike many of you guys my "meetings" with the law have generally been pretty positive experiences - on the times when I have been "done" for speeding then I haven't been able to reasonably argue against the punishment and there have been many times in my wilder youth that I've been let off with a verbal slap on the wrists when really even I've thought "I'm screwed now". Its got to be a damn hard job being fuzz and I just want to make sure that they get credit where its due.
