What does everyone think of the locally elected sheriffs idea?

Brilliant idea. Give policing control to the locals I say. We, and not the politicians, know best what issues need tackling locally rather than focusing on nationally set objectives. Objectives that have little relevance in some areas. Of course some may argue that it may lead to corruption. Well I know theres corruption already and I'd rather see it at a local level where we can all keep an eye on it.

Yeah great idea. Pass policing over to a politician so they can decide what is best for us in that area as well. All to be based on who has the loudest voice as normal (or what they think well get them elected). Bah, politicians have too much influence over the day to day running of the police and courts now without making it worse.

Is "politician" the only job on the planet one can get without any qualifications whatsoever other than a huge ego and a huger gob?

We have ex storekeepers and dole boys running our local council.(Into the bankruptcy court?)

Vote for me! I have a great face for TV and I can juggle!

I WOULD have to insist on the A31 being closed to all traffic when I go to and from work though...
