Has anyone got any statistics on whether an advanced driving course actually makes you any less likely to have an accident?

I cant find the link at the moment but there is fairly heafty evidence that it does.

This is why when I worked in the motor trade that everyone who had cause to drive as part of their work was sent on RoSPA, made a significant difference to the insurace on the back of it as well.

Wasnt there some report a week or two ago that said it made no difference whatsoever. Just looked on safespeed for it and couldnt find it, might be worth a search of the forums on here

I got quoted that having an IAM pass made you 20% less likely to be involved in an accident - and if you were involved the accident was significantly less likely to fatal.

Couldn't find you the figures though...I'll watch this thread with interest.

Yes, there was a report by an academic known anti-car nutter, so any conclusions were decided before he researched anything to back up his conclusions... IMHO, of course.

I initally thought that the insurance companies reflected the difference because it was a REAL difference, but arranging insurance recently you get no more than 5%, which is piffling. I get 10% for being a member of the Cobra club! and there certainly can't be an advantage in accident rate for that.

Couldn't find anything on the IAM wesite, and they're hardly impartial, so you would have thought they'd advertise their improvement.

Once you are an IAM member you can use IAM Select insurance. I was quoted 795 for my BoxS. The next cheapest was Direct Line at £950+ !

The insurance I took was 1100 but includes Track Days...

So on an expensive road car, if I didn't do Track Days, the cheapest insurance I've ever been quoted was from the IAM Select broker...
