Welcome to Northampton.
A Place absolutely ruined more by the “speed kills” lentilist, PC, think of the children hypocrites than dare I say it, most other places in the Uk. Do as I say and not as I do, the duplicitous theme that runs deep behind the cash raising swindle, encapsulating anyone, who has anything to do with speed enforcement in Northamptonshire. It would almost be entertaining, if it wasn’t true…
Taking my girlfriend to work, of course had the roadpilot on, wouldn’t leave the house with it, the hypothecation of these robbing devices is proceeding at an unbelievable rate. Pass the first camera, it’s been cut off with an angle grinder, again. That’s because it’s in the middle, of a very wide, 60mph road with good visibility and is there purely to catch motorists and raise a bit of cash. Have to then avoid completely traffic-ridden industrial estate, because the pratnership have imposed a 40mph limit on the duel carriageway and have dotted around a few mobile cams. Everything is backlogged, the road design is shite…but who cares about that?!
Took a rural road 60mph..single track which leads into a village, the road continues straight, but there is housing either side, so I slow to 30 as you do, automatically…Towards the end of the village, the local numpty mums are outside with their “30mph” placards and have even got their kids in on the act! I do not need a roadside mum or kid to decide the safe speed thanks… There were of course “speed kills” placards too. I would have loved to have stopped and explained to them the real truth about speed. I was too angry with them using their kids who didn’t understand, and whom I doubt it had a choice, I was angry with them falling for the stupid propaganda, and knew that if I did have anything to say they wouldn’t have listened. So I gave em all a grin and continued on my way. I did think about a high speed “flypast” on my way back, but decided to rise above.
IMO this country and its “speed enforcement” policies are becoming a complete disgrace, im glad I don’t have to travel long distances regularly, or I may need a Deltaf of my own to clear the way! This fantastic journey ended with a 40mph limit down to 60 on my fav bit of clear country road, and even better when coming off the country road I had a count of the signs…. There are four by my turn off…
1) 40mph (Down from 50…No reason)
2) Speed Camera sign
3) Traffic signal camera sign
4) Welcome to Northampton… Welcome my arse. It’s a hellhole, full of misfocussed speed bull, gullible numptys and hypocrites, and I’m sick of it.
So explain this….
Fatal accidents in Northamptonshire
increased by 35% in 2002
Despite the continual claims about how 'successful' speed cameras are in reducing accidents, fatal accident rates have never dropped to the levels they were in 1993, 1994, and 1996, when there were no speed cameras in Northamptonshire.
1999 was an unusually bad year for accidents, which is precisely why Northamptonshire was chosen as one of the trial areas for speed cameras. The results were a foregone conclusion — accidents were bound to fall the next year, and they would be able to attribute this reduction to their beloved speed cameras.

I know what you mean about Northants - having lived here for many years. BUT, I don't think it's much worse now than other counties. At least the Truvelos are all well marked and have the speed limit well signed as you approach them (unlike many other surrounding counties) - just the vans you need to watch. It's amazing the way the operator points the thing at you, even at 20mph, when you're in a Caterham - almost goading you on!
Like you, I am also dismayed at the policies of the local council in dropping speed limits and the statistics that are banded around. I would urge disgruntled drivers to write to their MPs etc and voice their concerns - the more people that do this, the better. I wrote to my MP (Wellingborough) about Truvelos that weren't marked (waiting to be switched to Live status). He wrote back informing me that Truvelos were only used for traffic census purposes!!!!!!! Anyway he had a reply from the Chief Constable, after my letter was forwarded to the police, and he now knows a bit more about the various cameras.
We need to educate them before they can even think about acting on our behalf. So go on - write that letter.

I got done this year on the a508 just off the a14 along with three overs at thee court at the same day 46.089 mph in a 40 the road should be 69 at least I will have a party when some one burns this cash cow to the ground.the others were exactly the same speed including the next speeder 15 minutes after me!!!,I am thinking of appealing any leagl boys fancy the chance to kick these robbers in the ass?.
pi55edoffnow said:Seems to me that the chance of two vehicles doing exactly the same speed to three places of decimals on the same road withn 15 minutes of each other is vanishingly small. If you can locate the other 'offender' I'd have a chat with him about jointly appealing. It's a pity his brief didn't spot this and remark on it to the court at the time.

You end up spending 30% of your time scanning for cameras, vans, speed humps... Is this not more dangerous than concentrating on driving and your environment?
