Apologies if this topic has been covered before, but I was flashed at 7.00am on xmas eve by a Gatso (driving towards it with markings on both sides of the road) and I would like to know how long I have to endure checking the post each morning before I can breath again. Urban myths range from 14 days to 3 months.

I was always told that you couldn't be photo from the front... Is this wrong?

If there were markings on both sides of the road and I am right about not being able to photo from front then I guess you set off the camera when you passed it at speed, but it will have taken a photo of the otherside of the road. I have done this before on several dual carriageways before and know that you can set it off by speeding on the opposite side of the road, where there are no markings. It could be that the camera is often turned around to face either direction.

I am almost sure that this is the case here, but would like anyone who is sure to let us know (for future reference!!)

14 days to receive a Notice of Intended Prosection (NIP). I guess you're in the clear.

I thought they could not do you going towards the camera with a normal Gatso? (not sure about the other infra-red type cameras though).

There are some front facing speed cameras but most of the grey box type that have been there for ages will not record a proper image. The lines on both sides of the road are because some D*CKHEAD local authorities think its funny to try and cause yet more accidents by putting extra lines in. I have been flashed literally hundreds of times from the front on a particular stretch of road where the two cameras operate and are sufficiently far apart for me to get to 85 from 60 once having passed the last metre marker. Never heard a thing and intend to continue doing it.

If its facing you and it's a GATSO then you won't be done. I've got one just outside my village on the A505, and as to turn rigt towards the front of it, with a bit of spirited right foot you can get it to flash, this is cos the radar picks it up within its footprint and sets the flashes off. No danger, only to your eyes

Surely you cant get done from the front because motorbikes only have a rear registration so front facing cameras would be use for them.

Got flashed at night straight in the face in the countryside when doing 62 in a 50. Yes I was above the limit but on a perfectly straight wide a road with the nearest house! over 1/4 mile away. VERY dangerous to be flashed full in the face.

I don't believe you can be done going the wrong way against a camera but comfirmation would be nice.

This happened to me over Christmas on the Cirencester to Stow road.

The conclusion that I came to was that they couldnt measure the speed if you were going towards the camera. The flashes are 0.5 seconds apart and the lines are used for speed assesment, if you are going towards the camera then the speed would be negative.

But then this could be midnight physics again...

Matt.

I concur with Ninja and Big Rumbly on this one

Just up the road from where I live there is a Gatso at the point where the speed limit drops from 50 to 30.

I have to say I get all carried away when travelling in the opposite direction and make it my personal challenge to get the thing to flash (it always does).

Having done this for over a year, I have not yet received a NIP!
