Dear All,

I was reading through the thread on phone law the other night and I noticed the discussion on hands free kits & which types were going to be allowed etc, formed a large part of the discussion.

I found this interesting as I think the cost of bluetooth & other professionally installed handsfree kits is quite high and I am currently doing some market research into the viability of importing a brilliantly simple handsfree kit.

It will:

work with ANY mobile phone

have no wires or earpieces

install in a few seconds

need no professional installation

utilise your car stereo to transmit calls

transfer easily from vehicle to vehicle

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

it will be reasonably priced compared to most other "in car hands free kits"

Im looking at trying to aim for around £25 for the whole kit, dependant upon final import duties and exchange rates.

Petrolted kindly agreed to me posting here to help me with market research and as a thanks to PH & everyone who responds with some feedback to my idea, I will offer all respondents a discount of 25% if they would like to buy one!!

I would be very grateful for any questions, comments or suggestions via email or as a post onto the thread. please feel free to email me at hansfree@hotpop.com

I hardly ever use my mobile at all, but at that price you could put me down for one. (I have a wife with a mobile. )

At that price it sounds too good to be true.
There has to be a catch....

If this is a genuinely acceptable solution, than at that price it ought to sell well!

I currently use a Nokia handsfree kit that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It uses the microphone on the phone itself and uses its own speaker (which is part of the plug). It cost £40. I hardwired it into the cars power and hid all but a short length of wire where the phone plugs in. I would, however be interested in your kit if its reasonably priced and effective as mines not all that great, especially if the roof is off and im travelling at a decent speed.

I dont know if this helps, but i typed it just in case it does. Good luck with your innovation, and if you need a cost-effective website to promote it when its done, give me a shout.

If it does all you say then I'd definately have 1, maybe 2, and I know a lot of other people who would be interested as well

Do you know that it will be legal? Have you checked its specifications against the changing legislation?

Sounds like a good price etc but..............

Most of these things are rubbish when you are travelling at speed and its raining or the noise etc makes it impossible for the person on the other end to hear you or for you to hear them.

Have you tried it? or are you just going for a hope it sells volumes?

I would much rather pay more and be able to hear and be heard by the person on the other end!!

Thanks everyone for your responses, all your comments are much appreciated, keep em coming!!!

Id like to respond to a few of the points raised:

Mad Dave, M&H and Matt L all referred to the cigarette lighter plug in kits available from Nokia. (M&H thanks for the link - i cant compete with everyone for price but hopefully i can on the quality!) The main advantage of my kit over the Nokia is the speaker system. The Nokia kit has its OWN INTEGRAL SPEAKER, the kit i will be offering use the CAR STEREO SPEAKERS & SYSTEM. The problem of the kit being useless at high speed or in a convertible should therefore not be a problem as the sound quality will be just as good (or just as bad) as the stereo system you have fitted in your car.

Dick Dastardly asked:

"Do you know that it will be legal? Have you checked its specifications against the changing legislation?"

It will be supplied with a phone holder so it wont have to be hand held so its ok there, there will be no trailing wires for earpieces to distract the drivers attention so thats all good too, as far as i can see it fits in with the new statute as well as any other hands free kit, and it also has european CE mark certification so you know that it meets european quality standards.

"Have you tried it? or are you just going for a hope it sells volumes?"

No i havent tried it yet, im arranging the first shipment at the moment. But my purpose here is to research the market and check out interest in such a kit so i know what people are looking for. Im putting my own money where my mouth is to finance everything so im not buying a big load in the hope it sells volumes to find out its crap and im stuck with 1,000's of em!! I want to get something that is simple to use & works well so i can know my risk is worth taking. research so far indicates they will work well though.

206 XSI - Easy tiger, youd probably have to pay me at this stage as i havent even got the product here to retail yet mate, im still in the research stage but keep ya eye out here and ask me again if feedback looks good..... maybe ill be looking for distributors!!!

Im bringing in a small shipment first so i can test them and market them amongst electronic & automotive retailers and so ill have the opportunity to allow anyone whos been kind enough to help me out here to purchase some cheapies from this shipment. I hope to have all my pricing in place by early week for the first shipment, with arrival a week later, so if you would like me to email you once i have the product ready please drop me a line at hansfree@hotpop.com.

Nice one! And very true too Streaky but it will either:
make a mess of ya dashboard or, if you tape it to ya head, be very painful when you take it off at the end of the journey!!
