Wondered if, as there's rather a lot of us who value our freedom of movement, a protest, similar to the fuel protests, would be in order to demonstrate the strength of feeling we have about speeding.

We have put up with the spoon feeding of the go-slow = safe lies for long enough. speeding is not the most heinous crime. not when people get raped, mugged etc

I think a rational debate is really the way forward, but somehow, I think a nationwide go-slow (yes, I see the irony!) would be more appealing to the media etc. A debate would be difficult to organise and could be ignored quite easily.

anyone any thoughts? I think a few of the car magazines would be favourable in supporting this. perhaps all P/H members could support it? any thoughts Ted?

maybe we could tie it in with a fuel protest?

The problem you've got with a go-slow is that not everyone will abide by it, and invariably the people who DO, wont crash, but the daily stats will remain the same - so they can argue that by going slow, you were safer as none of you crashed!

I agree with a protest of some kind, although id maybe spread the net wider than just speeding - persecution of the motorist might be better. Also, dont all turn up in Sportscars, or itll just be branded as speed freaks, scared of losing the right to play in their toys. Do it in normal everyday cars and youll show yourselves as being part of the general population.

[I am obviously joking mode on]

I'd like to get a 10,000 people togther who don't mind commiting suicide. We'll hold ourselves to ransom to the government and say "Get rid of all Talivans or we'll kill ourselves"

If the governemt refuse, they'll have to live with the fact that Talivans just CAUSED 10,000 deaths in one day.

I mentioned this in a thread a while ago, not a go slow, but a mass descending on North Wales Police HQ, full media coverage and the lark. No speed involved, just lots of noise and publicity (and nice roads to drive on on the way home, as long as you don't go over 70!)

Bikers brought stratford to a standstill by obeying the speed limits for a day.

We could do an M25 all three lanes at the speed limit protest? 30 cars back from us it would be stationary.

After my shock today I really think it's only a matter of time before we get our first camera killing. There must have already been some suicides. It will only take a slightly on edge person to be tipped over by an unjust ban.

I too have thought recently along similar lines to the suggestions in this thread. What about, for example:

1. A "go-slow" along the M4 in South Wales. Say 25mph? Three vehicles at the front (with suitable "placards" of course!!) would be all that would be needed. A few more in support would, of course, be better.

And, of course, the beauty of it is that the Scamera Partnerships want to "slow us all down." Isn't that exactly what we would be doing???!!!

2. Two vehicles, parked almost opposite each other, close to a Talivan, creating a chicane. As a result, no speeding, no income. When the Talivan driver gets p****d off and moves somewhere else, follow him/her and do the same thing again. And again. And again. All it needs is two people with a day to spare, and revenue from the tax cameras would fall to nil for that day. Both vehicles would need a placard saying something like "Beware - Tax Cameras ahead" for maximum effect. Even better, the press might be persuaded to come along and take pictures, especially if the location had no history of accidents.

If anybody else is interested in such a course of action, especially in Wiltshire, please post something positive or e-mail me !!

I will help out. We can simply stand in front of the vans. I believe they move off, and as you say we can follow to their next location.

I will be up for participating, but i am crap at organising things...

Who knows, maybe we could start up an organisation like the AA used to be...or would that be illegal these days?

How about a few thousand drivers following a man with a red flag. It'll get the attention of the media, and show up the antideluvian attitude of the Talivan Partnerships.

John Rowling of the South Wales Partnership says that aprox a third of accidents are speed related. So why not target the two thirds which are not!

Get a transit, 3.5 tonne box or similar and park it on the road but behind the talivan so that all the camera can see is the front if the van, with a nice sign on the back saying.

!Caution Talivan Ahead!
But it can't see you so go nuts
