Speed is not a killer

A university researcher is claiming that driving in excess of the speed limit is not necessarily more dangerous than driving below the speed limit.
Dr Alan Buckingham of Bath Spa University has been undertaking a comparitive study of road deaths in Britain - speed scamera capital of the world- and Australia , Which is currently considering the widespread introduction of speed scameras . In an interview with a local paper, he laid out some of his conclusions.
As a result of his studies , the academic concludes that "There is no simple relationship between speed and death.... it is actually the slowest drivers who are the most dangerous."
Overly cautiousmotorists may be sufferingfrom poor eyesight or a lack of confidance in their ability, both of which can prove far more dangerousthan simple speeding, According to Dr Buckingham.
The UK comfortably has more speed scameras per mile of road than any other nation , but Dr Buckingham belives the Government's fixation with speed limits is misplaced, if understandable, preoccupation.
Britain had one of the lowest accident rates of any industrialised nation even before the rise of the speed scameras, Dr Buckingham said
And i doubt anyone will listen to him

Yes, it takes an intelligent mind to see this. To think a little deeper about the situation.
However, we (mainly) do not have intelligent people deciding speed limits and enforcing them with cameras - we have blinkered twits who cannot think beyond "it must be safer to travel slower (for some reason) despite real life situations." They do not wish to employ too much grey matter to the situation - that would mean looking at the counter arguments to prove that they are wrong and unintelligent people are usually too pig-headed to even wish to respond fully to opposing points of view. (Plus, of course, slow, dithering bad drivers are not much of an income source.)

Hooray!!!!!!!
At last someone is talking sense, now how do we get this into the mainstream.
Dither'ers are dangerous, I can spot them a mile away:
1) They normally indicate once they've started slowing down
2) They drive round the oustide of roundabouts,
3) They panic when you overtake them & often nail the brakes.
4) They are also the same ones who still have their brakes on even once you've passed em in the narrow bits(Look in your mirrors you can always spot them) must be response times I think.
5) They always appear to be looking dead ahead
6) They always have two hands rigid on the steering wheel
7) They drive at 40 everywhere!!!!
There should be a competency test for everyone every 3-5 years.

Will never happen. not enough money to be made (or too much to be lost)
Well well well, something that I've been propounding for the last 20 years has at last been researched in GB. Funnily enough as I've posted here many a time, whizzing down the Autobahn at 200+kph does not let my attention wander, but driving behind some mindless muppet in a greeny labelled sh1tmobil doing 100kph because the "world will be greener if I do it" attitude, tends to be downright dangerous.......now there's some proof (as if my accident free 2 million kms doesn't prove it, touch wood, fingers crossed etc )
Unfortunately for the time being at least, this piece of absolute common sense will be pushed aside by the likes of the Hag Dunwoody because it does not fit in with the current labia-political tide against the car, and also the commonly accepted perception of the man in the street.
The same perception that demands that good quality meat should be blood red, good quality fruit iin supermarkets must be round and unblemished and if my newspaper says it then it must be true.
