dumb rozzers, plod shop etc

This intrigues me.

I use the terms plod and rozzer to refer to policemen because I assume it is not considered by them to be offensive.

I think this because I've heard policemen call themselves by these terms.

I try to avoid what I consider to be offensive words: filth[1], pig etc 'cos the police are after all, at least theoretically, on *our* side.

Do the PH BinB not like these terms? If so what slang terms *are* acceptable? (I hope rozzer is 'cos I like it!)

I, for one, am more than happy to stick to a vocabulary that PH police posters are comfortable with! (But I'd like to keep rozzer 'cos I first saw it in Punch and thought it was a brilliant term! ;-) )

Obviously I use Talivan and Scamrea and won't cease to use these no matter how much BinB offence they cause.

[1] Except a couple of times under extreme provocation.

Well, given the amount of family and friend involvement with the police, I would never use terms they took offence to.

Copper, plod, rozzer and the like are all terms I know my family/friends don't have issue with.

let's face it there are quite a few "internal" nicks

eg woolly suits as uniform are sometimes known by plain clothes, shiny-arses as traffic were known when they were traffic, specials used to be called blacklegs and so on.

Why don't we ask them what they find acceptable.

I use rozzer, old bill,cop etc. I think plods a bit derisory, like filth, scum.

No need to offend them through ignorance

I have only ever thought of myself when I was in as a BIB, Bluebottle or cop, but I must admit I had been called a lot of things.......

Personally,
Pig, filth, scum. I find very insulting, as do many more unprintable names.

Rozzer, old bill, I can live with.

For some reason, 'copper' twangs a nerve somewhere which I agree is a bit weird.

Mike.

Ummmmm this forum is "Speeding, PLOD & the Law" so that should give an idea of what is acceptable

Scum isnt a term for the police, a social class (or lack of it) yes, but not the fuzz.

I agree with Pigs and Filth thats just silly.

Rozzers
Nick Nicks
Coppers
Da Babylon
Ecilop
BiB
Long Arm etc are all meant in fairly good faith I think...

Dibble = From Top Cat
Barbrady = South Park
Chips = CHiPs
Hookers? or TJs = TJ Hooker
