I approached a Talivan today and my Bell 550 didn't go off, it wasn't triggered at all. Do they use radar and/or laser ?

Are some wired into inductive coils in the road ?

Most use laser and can tax you from several hundred yards away but a few, like those in West Mercia, use the strips in the road triggering a photo/video.

If you live in Dorset then they've got lots that use the inductive loop system.

Does anyone know whether the locations of the (DS2/SpeedMaster/AutoVision) strips are programmed for GPS detectors? - Streaky

They can be both, if a large unit out side of van, maybe radar, if inside of van normally a laser.

They damn well better be for the sort of money these things cost.

Just managed to check my Origin B2 manual and it does alert for DS2 (type) - Streaky

There was one on the A1 northbound on Sunday that probably used the inductive loop. Around the Sandy/Beeston area - the limit goes down to 50mph.

Has anyone with a BEL Euro 550 had it detect laser from a van?

I've driven by 5 or so vans recently, with definite laser devices, and it has never gone off.

One time the operator was having a sandwich in the front and another standing out-side having a fag, and the other times I wasn't breaking the speed limit, so they might not have turned it on ???

Yes, I have. At a range of about 1000 yards when being targeted on the A14.

It saved me though I was only doing 83.

Thanks, reg

I saw this laser van parked in the grounds where I work - beautiful sunny day, so I though he was having a skive and sunbathing.

Parked up and went over to the van to see if I could persuade him to test out my laser detector.

Turns out to be a dog handlers van with the sides open to expose cages not a laser trap.

Neither he nor the Alsations looked very amused, so made a quick exit

I've seen a marked BiB car parked up with the window down and the police officer pointing a device out of his window.

As I passed him, I noted he was eating his sandwiches and pointing his Thermos flask at the traffic for a laugh. Those BiB have a sense of humour.
