Hi all, I was going to post this on the P&P but i could do without the p1ss taking. I have a situation and i dont really know what to do about it.
I got a speeding ticket in october and chose to take the speed awarness course and paid £60. Then Cols dad died two days before the course so i called them and explained the situation and changed the date of the coures. They stressed to me that if i couldnt attend the next date they'd have to pass it on to the police. No problems until i recieved the date of said course. 25th Feb. Freds funeral Obviosly there was no contest so i phoned the speed awerness place and said rather than mess them about i'd cancel the course and take the points on the licence instead. So i got the letter from the police stating that i needed to pay £60 and send off my licence. I could apparently claim back the £60 i paid for the course, if i provided a death certificate and proof of why i couln't attend. I could have done that but with emotions as they were i let the £60 go and sent a cheque for £60 along with my license recorded delivery. We recieved a letter today stating that as i've ignored all corespondence i would be required to attend court and pay costs for the motor offence i commited. Of course this wouldnt be a problem as i sent it recorded delivery and can prove so.
This is where the problem lies. We seem to have lost the reciept issued by the post office.
Is there anything i can do? I've never been to court or in any kind of trouble with the police and i'm really worried. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Mel

Michael's correct. I'm sure you will get a better response in SP&L.

I've moved it for you.

To be honest I wouldn't worry unduly about it.

Just plead guilty (as that appears what you were going to do anyway) & inform the court of the course of events (including any copies of documents that have passed between you & the speed awareness course/police etc.).

and one of them did, me. There is a specific forum (where this thread now exists) that is patrolled by the very people who's advice will be far greater than that of a few mates in the HSV forum.

SPL has coppers, lawers, solicitors and Vonhosen (;)) all people that will tell you exactly where you stand smile

Do you know the date you posted it? A trip to your local Post Office or their helpdesk might help.

Dont worry too much, just take all relevant documentation to court and explain it all to them and let them know why you couldnt attend etc etc.

Did you pay cash for the recorded delivery, or by card. If card, you can obtain proof that you were in the Post Office, and the (then) going rate for a recorded delivery is £xyz.

regardless of cash or card there is a receipt to prove special or recorded delivery so there is proof of sending

Daft question, probably - but do Post Offices keep such receipts at their side - and if so, how long for?

if you dont want to go to court you can write a nice letter to them explaining everything and include coppies of all documents.

just remmebr to send it to both the local plod (address on speeding letter) and the court house.

I'd just go to Court and tel them what happened and show the letters you have (copies etc) and expain it, take a copy of the death certificate. I reckon they will go easy on you and may even let you off!

Good Luck

everything sent by a tracked method is kept tabs on, the punter is given a gert big red receipt to show proof of posting too.
