Quick question: anyone know the exact bit of legislation determining the legality of double yellows?

I was ticketed (by police) recently while parked on the lines outside my own garage; none of the surrounding cars got tickets (despite being on the same lines, and some were even parked among police 'no waiting' cones); the lines weren't barred at one end until I pointed it out to the ticket office and they came to piant them in. Needless to say, I have photos.

Even so, the ticket office still wants to waste my time and money in court (self-employed, so it will cost me heavily).

Without a bar the double yellows are not legal - end of story.

It's a grey area if the lines are incomplete.

Bear in mind the zig-zags from a pedestrian crossing sit on double yellows, so the bar will be further on.

What was the ticket actually for? Stupid question but we (the police) don't do yellow lines any more (at least not in Dorset and I can't imagine we'd make a policy decision on our own initiative)

That was a joke Mrs Stitchbury, ma'am

Ticket was for no waiting; it was issued by a probationer just three weeks into the job. Responsibilty in our area changed over to the council about a week after this ticket was issued...

I've been through all of this. Let them keep sending you letters and don't waste your time writing back. Fill in the forms saying the offence didn't occur if you want. They still won't listen though. Eventually once the threat of a fine reaches silly levels they have to go for arbitration via an independant arbitrator (yippee). Once you get notice of that just send the photograph to the arbitrator. The council will back down, end of story. Most people cave in early on and pay up and they hope you will do the same. You can phone me from my profile if you like.

Tickets don't bother me anymore.I just park very carefully for brief periods.
