Could I get nicked for...
Discussion
I was reviewing the things I did in my yoof.. and I was telling a pal that I used to get pulled every year and I now wonder what was the real offense commited under road traffic acts? (these days I dont get stopped.)
So I was wondering if the BiB could tell me which of these stunts I used to pull would warrant a stop, and under what could I be done for? **
wheel spinning
obvious understeering under power/speed
handbrake turns into car park spaces
exessive acceleration
locking brakes under braking (for no reason, ie not to avoid an accident)
powersliding a RWD on an island
** I often wondered if the BiB at the time really could nick me if I contested the point## or were just giving me a bit of verbal for being a pratt
## I usually wimpered like a scolded puppy, and got let go.
NB not trying to justify any behaviour, just nosey about the laws I could have been done for.

When I was 17, the polcie pulled me over because they heard me 'wheelspin'. It was all a fabrication I didn't do it, back then I was a totally boring driver and so innoccent I probably wouldn't have even known how to wheelspin!
Anyway, once they pulled me over they then searched me and the entire car, they did all the checks on me that they could since I was a young guy in nice car. They didn't find anything in the car or on me, so I then proceeded to waste of much as their time as possible and ask all the possible questions I could think up.
Er, sorry went off a bit there. I guess they can stop you, but I doubt you'd be arrested for wheelspinning, it's getting the rear end out and broadsiding that may get their attention!

Same thing happened to me, but I didn't do anything. was driving at 50 in a NSL at night, maybe 1:30am on roads North of Carlisle. Bib come out from behind a hedge, flashes lights and pulls me over. Makes me step out of car, unlock boot, remove sub, open bonnet and clear all posessions out of car on to road side. 2 of them check car over including unbolting one of the bucket seats so they can look in the back, and make me wait until they have checked that I own the car then quizz me about what I have been doing all night. Ask if I have been drinking.
I reply no. Finally they are satisfied. I ask why I was stopped, was told it was "routine". They sat and waited for me to pull away then followed me don the road for 10 min, after which I got pissed off and pulled in to the Halls of Residence Car Park and switched off the lights, then they went away.
As I understand if I can be pulled for doing nothing, then the way this country is going soon you'll be hanged for anything that you have described. But at the moment probably pulled at least.

Not in proper control – Would a reasonable person make the vehicle do that?
WDC – Driving far below that of a reasonable person.
WRC – Inconveniencing other road users.
All of the above offences could cover wheel spins etc….
Even better than that :- Police reform Act 2002. Vehicle can now be seized for these type of offences.
Basically, If your wheel spinning at lights, there is an element of not being able to be in full control of your vehicle.

Define "full control" please?
How is a vehicle out of control if its spinning its wheels (they do that ya know!
) if im the one whos making em spin?
By excessively pressing the accelerator on a wet road, you’ll get the wheel spin. That is not what a ‘normal’ driver would do. There is a much greater risk of losing control with hard acceleration.
By holding the brakes and applying the accelerator at the same time. If you foot/hand slipped off the brake pedal/lever the car/bike would shoot forward. It’s as simple as that.
If you were sitting at the traffic lights in a normal situation and your foot slipped off the brake the vehicle would move forwards slowly.
I’m sure you can work out it out.

I am not attacking you , but i think that is not true...
I can easily do a burnout in the dry, in a parking bay and not hit the cars on either side of me, and not roll forwards, and if my foot was to slip off the brake while doing it i would accelerate much slower than if i just accidentally stepped on the gas without the brakes applied...while wheel spinning may appear to be a mysterious art to some..if you have enough power it is easily controlled...

Not exactly out of control then is it?
The control element is based on a reasonable persons perspective of control.
A normal use of a vehicle would not constitute wheel spinning. It is not mentioned in the Highway Code as a ‘driving skill’
I’m sorry to disagree with you but if it were taken to Court you would most likely be found guilty.
I was pulled over and given a producer for screeching my tyres once
I didn't even break traction, it was the combination of 4x brand new tyres and the tarmac surface.
To my knowledge it wasn't even public highway
But it wasn't a ticket, so I couldn't be bothered to argue. So how would you stand in any of the above situations when not on the public highway?

I am sure you are right
If i was to get caught, i would be busted for something or other
Anyway, can't talk now, I am off to do some donuts infront of the local safety camera.
I was warned for possible 'reckless driving' when I was on my way to the College of Law. In my defence (which is no defence) it was wet and one of my driven wheels was on a manhole cover at the lights and I didn't intend to light em up. Still, when pulled over and asked why I might be 'done' I simply apologised, recognised my bad driving, said possibly reckless driving and apologised some more. I was told my behaviour was not that expected of future custodians of the law.
As a 'yoof'(IIRC about 22 years ago) I got followed & eventually stopped by a cop after having 'screeched' round a bend in town, I wasn't exceeding the speed limit but was probably going too fast for the conditions and a combination of tyres/road surface and car (Triumph Spitfire - Tyres had a real tendency to squeal, for some reason) drew his attention.
Anyway after a Bollocking for 'innapropriate speed' the cop said "I don't care how fast you drive on the open roads but keep it down in the town" that is a statement that stuck with me for many years (I don't exceed sensible town/village limits, unless they are new, inappropriate, PC limits
) but sadly I don't suppose those views are PC enough for today's BiB and this guy will be retired by now.
