Why are scameras always so far from the junction?

If the junction they are supposed to be "protecting" is so dangerous, why don't they have the scamera right on the junction, so the "compliance zone" is immediately where the so called blackspot is???
A good example of stupid cameras, on the A414 from Harlow - one camera hundreds of yards from the junction, and one camera immediately *after* !!! how stupid is that? on a bike or a fast car you just slam down to 50, boot it back to warp speed, slam down again, and roar off. Where's the safety? idiots! do they really think we are fooled?

The same on the A45 at Ryton -- cameras are before and after the junction, not on it.
The original justification for the 50 limit was the dangerous junction, but on the back of that they made the limit extend almost up to the A45/A46 roundabout. This enables them to add an extra sneaky camera close to the A45/A46 roundabout, and make use of a Talivan sitting in the PSA Ryton plant gateway.
Even if you accept the safety-ness of the cameras round the junction, there's no safety justification for the extended limit, the extra camera and the Talivan location.

Gatso cameras whether mobile or not cannot be placed near to or at junctions because they will not read anyones speed. This is due to the radar being confused by vehicles pulling out of the junction and/or turning into it.
It is also rather difficult to park a camera van near to a junction as you may cause an obstruction.
Speed cameras at my garage are placed before junctions in order to slow people down prior to getting to the junction. I honestly don`t care if they get flashed or not as long as they slow down.

so hiding round the bend out of the line of site with a big tree hiding the back of the van is just you

bollocs not so many years ago the like of dick turpin was hung at the road site.
about time we done the same to the scammers who operate the cams.
When I operated the Camera vans, there was absolutely no need to hide, indeed I often had a marked traffic car with flashing rear reds on parked next to me, yet I still caught numerous drivers with no forward vision.
I really don`t have a problem with the way I operated my camera van, I did not hide, there was no need to and I chose the sites, using my experience as a Traffic Officer....
