Mobile vans range
Discussion
Drove up to Scotland 19 days ago.
1st Van was sighted just after Lancaster turn off on the M6, it was on the fly over at the top of the hill after a gentle curve. I was doing more than ACPO, conditions were good traffic quite light, saw the van about 0.5-6 miles away and slowed down. No Nip despite camera being out.
2nd Van on a bridge the straight bit of the A74 between England and Scotland, here he could see for miles I saw him with about 0.7-0.8 miles to go,it was a red van with poor markings. Again doing over ACPO conditions very good, I was virtually the only car on the road, slowed down when I saw him. Again No Nip despie camera appearing to be pointed right at me.
Are the mobile van cameras a lot shorter range than we are led to belive ?
PS. both these vans were doing very little for road safety trying to catch motorists on our safest roads, instead of being outside a school or on urban roads were the vast majority of accidents and deaths occur.

As much as I agree with this in most situations, the A74 between the M6 and A74(M)/M74 is a bitch of a road for accidents. Traffic still drives along it as if it's a Motorway (which it should be), but it's a dual carriageway with T-junctions with *very* short slip roads. A couple of times a year there's a serious enough accident to close it for a day and many other smaller shunts.

Thanks, but do you have anyknowledge of mobile camera vans you could pass on ?
Oh the A74's a breeze you should try keeping up with everyone doing 150mph along the A9

I've heard many people quoting figures ranging up to > 1 mile. BUT, AFAIK one of the requirements is to get it on video - especially the VRM. I'd have thought the optics of the video camera are going to be the limiting factor.
Just guessing so may not be anywhere near the money.

LOL My current motor only just wheezes up to the right side of 130 so I'd be left standing. Plus, last time I was on the A9 it was crawling with BiB IIRC. And I prefered the drive from Glasgow up to Fort William - more twisty
