Got stopped today on a motorway and issued with a NIP. The vascar reading apparantly was 100.1 mph over a 2 mile distance.
Question. Can a lone officer accuratly concentrate on his driving activate the start of the measured distance at exactly the same point as Me and likewise take a final reading at the same fixed point and produce an accurate reading good enough to stand up in court? In other words are there any guidelines that state that a none driving officer should activate the vascar?

In real life there must be some variance in the timing.

In court, it's his measurement against your angst. Guess who wins... and if its Vascar, I think you're going to be walking for a short while. Sorry.

Go to pepipoo and read up on getting the vascar tape analysed by an expert witness. Might reduce the speed record and what you get done for - but think you are up the creek without paddle at present.

rsvsttu, as in all these situations I think its important to remember. That I, and I hope many others on this list don't believe speed kills. I'm totally completely and utterly amazed that some people on here seem to believe it does. Not looking where you are going kills and when condions *ALLOW* 300 mph is perfectly safe.
101.1 MPH is VERY safe ( if conditions allow ) and on motorways thats very often the case. ( And sometime NOT )

None of this as far as the law is concerned makes ANY difference. Many people suggest you bend over and take it up the arrs. From my own reserach and experience you can beat this nonsense in court. A friend of mine got off 114 mph ( vascar ) on the A12 some years ago with me as a witness to prove a policeman cocked up his evidence - as he did - that is well worth checking . Case dissmissed ! It seems if you can find any problems with documentation etc or irregularities in the case - challenge evidence, cast doubt etc, you can get off. Not easy but worth it- if you can do it. Lifes a risk....... You have my *full support* what ever mate, I regularly break the speed limit by one or two miles per hour ;-) -- of cource I'm one of the criminal minority....... the speed camera partnerships really have speed under control don't they ! ;-)

Best of luck to you ! Let us know how you get on !!

Size Nine Elm,

Its not likely that he'll be walking for a few weeks.

The guideline for the magistrates is for speeds >100; between 6 points and a ban. Since he's only just into this bracket, it should follow that the points is the way to go. A solicitor may (or not) be able to convince the magistrates to going to the next category down with a guilty plea with mitigating circumstances.

So rsvsttu, don't panic just yet.
