Reading scamera van earns £25k a week
M6 scamera earns £50k per week
All about £££££££ deaths up by 91 etc
Cost of running a scamera £100k per annum
Road "saftey" minister, Jamieson says " happy to remove them if we can put something back in there place"
How about coppers, Jamieson, the real one's not the change you get when you buy a burger

You're selectively quoting, see: www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2105-902800,00.html .
He wants 'something else' to slow drivers down, not to save lives or injuries. It's the old 'constructed obstruction' again.

how much for 1 BiB
£33,284 (including overtime and location allowance).

jeffreyarcher said:That's salary, the 'running cost' is higher, usually a factor of 1.7 to 2.5 should be applied, making the running cost of a BiB around 80k pa - some some change, but not a lot ... you'd get 5 BiBs for 4 scameras - Streaky

220 Only doing what those bastards do
Good link, cheers
These organisations that are ripping all this money off all the statistically better drivers are a bit like the private clamping firms. An easy way to make money and they're going crazy - enjoying all the extra pay and overtime etc from the income.
The main points in the Sunday Times article that I found interesting were, in addition to the money that is being made from these tax machines were:
(a) The chief Constable of Durham thinks speed cameras are ridiculous and that exceeding the speed limit related to just 60 collisions per year in the Durham area - that's about 3%. He said that driver error caused by lapses in concentration were the main causes. (surprise surprise)
(b) He added that Durham's accident rate was about a third lower than the national average without speed cameras.
(c) Edmund King of the RAC said that the archetypal speeder is not a boy racer; he or she usually has an accident-free record and a full no claims bonus. (So, camera supporters, how are speed cameras contributing to safety?)
(d) Secrecy, a councillor, on behalf of North Somerset council has been trying without success to obtain financial accounts from his local "safety"(!) camera partnership without success. He said, "They won't tell you anything, even though the money they are spending belongs to the taxpayer". (What, all that money coming in and no accountability? That doesn't really sound like a recipe for, let's just say "misuse of funds" does it?

Does anyone know where in Reading this scamera van that catches a homicidal maniac every 95 seconds is?
It must be a hell of an accident blackspot. I've looked out of the window in Ascot expecting to see a huge pall of smoke in the sky emanating from the scene of the permanent multi vehicle pile-up that must mark its location. The wind must be in the wrong direction today though.

It's Vastern Road, the dual carriageway behind the station.
I use the road at least twice a day (normally 4x) and I have never even come close to seeing an accident - except for one dopey cow who was stationary joining a roundabout and then moved on to the rdbt when it wasn't empty.
It should be a 40, but is a 30 limit - so it's easy to catch people, that's why the camera is there.
