PH Fun Police - more tolerance needed?
Discussion
Regarding the Neons post, some of you guys must be the newly appointed Fun Police?
Since when did kids having fun with their cars deserve such harsh words?
I bet they are having as much fun for their money percentage wise as the "bigger boys" who can afford flashy cars.
Right, the next paragraph is "tongue in cheek", and I am going to put on my flame proof overalls.. but here is a quote that *could* be applied to most of you lot!!!!! - don't take it the wrong way, but it is here to show you the importance of tolerance.
"I am well sick of following crummy little sports cars that can't cross speed bumps at the speed limit, because they choose to go too low on the ride height, and have silly low profile tyres."
There? comments please! - and remember I don't actually beleive it. Each to their own, so please stop slating everyone 'cos they are different to you.
Keep it shiney side up folks.

damn right HB
by the sounds of some of the posters on the neons forum, we should all be driving round in identical grey focuses (focii?). while a nova with an evo 7 front bumper is probably a little extreme, and, arguably a bit of a waste of money, get over it. call me strange but i think a bit of diversity is a good thing. no i dont think a mynheer whale tail will ever suit any car but so what? its not my money and lets face it, these people are more pistonheads than the usual numpty you find on the road. >> Edited by paolow on Monday 24th November 00:09
The problem with changing the proportions of a vehicle (i.e. wheels, suspension) is that they effect the geometry of the vehicle. If they aren’t set up correctly they could have adverse effects on steering/braking etc….
Noisy exhausts are a nuisance and can emit excessive fumes.
Lights on the bonnet (neon etc) can give the impression of another vehicle i.e. green doctor, blue police/ambulance. This may cause the vehicle in front to pull over expecting an emergency vehicle. (I have known this to happen and the ‘victim’ crashed).
Fog lights – cause glare.
Smoked glass – Obscure occupants, need to make eye contact at junctions etc. Also obscure the driver’s rear and side views.
Tail fin – Look stupid
Body kit – If not declared to insurance company will void policy in a claim.
Dukes of hazard horn – Illegal – scares old ladies.
Hate to be a spoil sport but the construction and use regulations are there for a reason. Anybody who chooses to ignore them faces prosecution.

were this a huge concern for people driving in this country then maybe they would make the practical car control side of the driving test a little trickier...? Personally I think a slightly shagged Kevster-mobile is still safer than the old bint who nearly killed me this marning in her almera cos she turned the wheel too much to go round a corner!

surely this has to be a plus?!

excellent - some predictable armchair opinion. well, you heard the man, cars with noisy exhausts are a nuisance and bad for the environment so come on, all of you with lotuses, tvrs, porches etc, hand them over - youre selfish and have no regard for the environment
oh, and dont even think about putting led washer jets on your car because it makes it look like a police vehicle, which, apparently down monsters way, also have them
ah yes, apparently sierra cosworths look rubbish, well, each to their own, but the fact is that fog lights, which, i agree are a pain in the arse, come fitted as standard on most numpty cars and are not the sole preserve of boy racers.take a look at the drivers as they go past - in my experience its actually mid 30's drivers who have them - even on multiplas for some reason.
i do agree though that steering and suspension geometry is a finely tuned factor in the balance of a car and putting 17s on an a reg nova with shagged bushes and dry bearings probably wont help matters. but. at the end of the day, its their money and if it passes its mot every year its no less legal than any car you or i have driven. in fact - if you check - legal regs for cars, headlight position, window transparency, exhaust noise, external projections, youll find that there are already some pretty bloody harsh laws concerning what is, and is not, allowed. at the end of the day, what you are suggesting clamping down on is largely personal choice and god help us if thats dictated by ideals such as your own

there not illegal as long as you have the original horn(s) connected to the main horn switch and the dixie horns are either:-
1.connected to the switch for the main horn via a toggle switch and relay
or
2.connected direct to a seperate switch.
the only time you would be breaking the law is if you had it connected up as your only horn, iirc.
(i have a set on my 'tina)

Its not what they do to their car that really gets to most people, as you said each to their own and all that. But if they will persist in ragging it down the road to draw attention to themselves (why??? its a nova!
) and generally acting like retards they will give themselves a bad name. I only know of 1 or 2 out of hundreds of them that are genuine petrolheads and are out to improve their car without
ing everyone else off.I'm with Herts Biker on this. Just because some one has a customized car devoid of what we decree is tastful does not make them all bad. If some of you arm chair experts took the time to talk to some of these kids you would see the only differance between them and us is the price of their toys. Indeed if you look at the workmanship many display it is top quality. When I was 17 I had a tricked out mk2 cortina then Jacked up Capri with crusing lights and many other cars. They were always safe and well looked after. Now I have a Westfield still noisey fast and differant, and many still would have us off the roads. This site gets worse daily, we are petrolheads in all forms from boy racers to Ferrari owners, we have a common enemy in the state and the tree huggers who want to deprive us of our right to drive sensibly when we want to. Instead of finding things to bitch about regarding other roadusers be they boy racers or caravanners you should be using your efforts and energy to unite these people to oppose the unjust persecution of motorists. If you continue to divide the motoring public into boy racers, Tvr owners, bikers, caravanners it makes it easier for these anti car people to divide and impose their will on us one bit at a time.I really worry that we have in our midst agent provocetures who post rubbish to try to influence us. It is a creeping influence from Bob the builder building speed bumps to playmobile with the police radar trap guy, the mind washing goes on. Now if Bob the builder died of lung cancer or fell off his scaffolding high on crack cocaine or got run over because he was pissed that would be helpful, but that'll never happen will it.Stop fighting each other and stop the rot which will lead to our passion becoming a thing of the past.

Erm dont wish to be pedantic at all, but can you tell me how the volume level in db of a loud exhaust affects the burning of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinders, altering its hc,nox,co,co2 and o2 composition to the degree that it will emit more fumes????????...especially as such events are under ecu control??????
Think about a bit then think some more before posting such drivel please.
Have a very enjoyable day.

), but seems a little silly to lower the ride height to the point where a car can't cope with the speed humps in its own locality.
