You can tell a society is decrepit when it employs vast swathes of it's own populataion in wholly self defeating tasks of introspective repression against the constituent organsims of it's very existence/prosperity.
These people are actually luddites, albethey 21st century ones.
The faster a car is and can go, the better, period.
ANYTHING that opposes that logic is simply regressive and against the general economic interest.
And should be shot.
