I was just wondering if you could sit in a Trafpol car and see what goes on for a day, or is there too much redtape to stop you doing it?

Just wondering if anyone ever did that? Might be good to see driving on the other side of the coin so to speak.

My brother did work experience with our local police force (Essex). He enjoyed it but was always kicked out of the car as soon as a shout came up. Apparantly this was for insurance reasons.

Not sure if we're supposed to, but over the years I've had quite a few people in the rear of my car - nurses, local council peeps, prospective BiB and students doing sociology degrees.

Ignore the way that came out actually...

A bobby from my local force suggested I join one of their late shifts one evening as im considering a career change, so presumably its a common thing?

I went on some training thing with the Guildford Traffic Police ages back, a demonstration of roadcraft & all that. (Very usefull it has proved too)

It was an unmarked Sierra 4x4, the Lads demonstrating showed remarkable restraint whilst following this badly driven car, pulled up some scrote for driving like a tosser, all while we were in the back!, what fun you can have with those sneaky blue lights.

I bet you Trafpol lads just love unmarked cars?, come on tell us some stories.......

I did a "better driving" course with the IAM / TV Traffic, done at Witan Gate in MK (Alan Woodsford: RIP). At the end, we were all given the chance to go out on a "demonstration" drive in an unmarked car. My driver has to remain name-less, but it was quite an eye-opener (especially his controlled skid ). Funniest part was vehicle kept catching us up everytime we entered a thirty. In the NSL, we pulled away. Next village with a thirty, he caught us again and tail-gated. This went on for a few villages and in the end, the driver poped the "Police Slow" sign. The driver just turned right immediately (no signal, no slowing down etc). I think he just paniced. Oh how we laughed!!!

I would love to do that...I don't really have an interest in joining the force, but I would love to see the world from their view point for a day...I think it would be highly beneficial too.

You can count me in, but I suspect with the amount of interest it would have to be in a 56 seater coach.

got picked up hitchhikking down the side of the M4 several years back by an unmarked Calibra. The cops in it then offered to give me a lift to reading (I had a fairly good excuse as to WHY iwas on the motorway hitching)...and then proceeded to show me how much fun it is to be trafpol....it was cool!

like..."If he gets any closer" - right, on goes lights and sireens....good stern shouting out the wuindow and off we go! I had a wonderful half hour.....
