Hyperthetically....

Is it better to speed in dark when not many people are around, or in the daylight when you can see better.

Obviously the correct answer is, dont speed at all, but this is hyperthetical

I always like to think at night...... When I go for a thrash on a nice twisty road, I always try to do it at night because:

a) there are less people/traffic around.
b) There's MUCH less likely to be cyclists/pedestrians lurking in daft places.
c) You can see onciming headlights coming up to several corners away, long before you can see the car itself so you can sense when there's an obstruction looming up rather than needing to SEE it

Ok then - what if someone has broken down or had an accident which renders any lighting useless...?
If you can see better then you can drive faster. You can see better when it's light

Which means you can carry a little bit more speed into the corner, so you have more fun becuase you're going quicker, and in greater safety. Still nothing like caning a car through the Great British countryside on a hot summers afternoon though

In the day is usually best.
It is true you can tell if someone is comming the other way at night so adapt you "racing line" through bends
Although I will usually drive a section of road first to check for broken down or parked cars, tractors, ramberlers, cops etc beofre turning round a giving it some

Ah yes but you can't always use BIG LIGHTS, specially when there are other cars around, so you can't see as well then

I tend to do most driving these days late at night and i much prefer it. There are fewer people around and fewer perceived hazards, like farm vehicles, dodery pensioners, drunks etc....

For this reason i also use BIG LIGHTS and to be honest, the birds start singing when i drive past them, so they must be quite close to daylight! sorry ...

er hum! What i mean is, there are less people around and with decent headlights you can remove a lot of risk by being able to see a good distance ahead of you.

All in all i find it much less stressful driving later but getting in later, than leaving earlier and arriving at the same late time because of heavy traffic.

My favourite times are full moons on clear night, noone else about - with a shadow being left by the light of the moon. Main beam on and foot down. That is the closest to daylight you can get but its better cos theres no one else to ruin it!

I like speeding best late at night on the M5 coming back from Brum, in clear dry conditions when there isn't much traffic about, and hopefully no plod!

Quite right, IJLantern.

You pass the other cars, then switch on the BIG LIGHTS

Then it's safer than daylight 'cos you can see where you're going and other cars' lights reveal their presence.

Good for rabbit hunting, too............

hmm, tricky one

i quite like night driving as you can see cars coming alot easier, but i prefer driving in the daytime as i generally deride more satisfaction from it...

either way, as long as i can see where i'm going perfectly - not as easy as it sounds as my 'screen mists up rather too easy - i don't mind if its day or night, clear or wet...

in fact i positively revel in (certain) wet conditions, seperates the men from the boys!

At the end of a late turn (2 a.m. finish), the roads are empty (trafpol all in Bournemouth leching at club turnout ). Infinite headroom, starry backdrop - fantastic driving conditions.

If it wasn't for those little stripey fs it would be perfect.

You forgot one.

d) Cold air is denser and therefore the car is faster.....
