I was driving on the A59 the other day near Rufford, which is near Burscough.

As I came towards the 30mph zone there were two very nice LED roadsigns that flashed up your speed as you approached them.

The first thing that crossed my mind was I wonder how accurate my speedo is at 70mph?

You can bet your bottom dollar that the young Amx Power boys will be going all out for a 'high score'.

Great piece of speed prevention.

Actually Andy, why not ask yourself how accurate THEIR equipment is?

Blatent over-reading to lull you into slowing down.

If it ain't attached to anything - show it contempt.

See if you can go so fast past it, that the speed is displayed after you have passed the sign. Assuming it is safe to do so.

Hmm, I've gone past a few of these signs in other locations, and while most seem accurate, a couple on motorways have flashed me up as doing 5mph over my actual speed, which was below the posted limit...

Yep, my Jeep over-reads by 5MPH and the TVR is bang on - so have tested a couple out where i used to live - and you are totally right. One was saying that I was over 30MPH when I was doing 28MPH and the other was flashing even though I passed at 26MPH..... makes you think....

P.S. Anyone else notice that the 1 mile marker to a m-way junction isnt always 1 mile?

Aren't these the signs that are proven to be massively more effective at reducing speed levels than the Scameras?

We don't have any of the ones around here that display your speed, though we have a few that flash the speed limit and 'slow down' if you are going too fast. These catch peoples attention and remind people of the speed limit they should be obeying.

I for one wouldn't mind if all speed cameras were replaced by these. Maybe if this message was more vocal then the government might actually listen for once.

My Origin B2 shows my Jeep over-reads reasonably consistantly by 3mph from 10 to 70. My Tiv (we must be twins ) over-reads by an increasing amount as the speed rises. Over-reading is fairly common and from the manufacturers' (and most road users') points of view ... it's a 'good thing' as it saves them being hauled into court as 'expert witnesses' to testify on the accuracy of the devices - Streaky
