question for the trafpol:

My dad has been on a long driving in europe holiday, and his MOT is due to expire.
Does he need to return early and book in for an MOT, or is their a cut off point where driving without MOT is allowed, as long as he has one booked?

He wants to avoid curtailing his holiday..

There is no cut off point for not having an Mot.
In order to drive without one then you must be taking it to an MOT test for a pre arranged appointment. It also must be localish.

He wouldnt get away with it if he lived in London and was taking it up to Scotland for its MOT for example.

Seems a bit drastic though to curtail a holiday just to get the vehicle MOT'd.

He can either come back to Blighty or just get it done when he returns. Book it in to a home garage as soon as he crosses the water.

I would be concerned not having one, assuming he is insured on the said vehicle through a UK insurance company. Then in the event of a claim surely it could get a little ticky?

That would depend on the particular insurance policy he has.
