Are these used any more?

Certainly when I was a new driver I would see 3 or 4 police cars parked up on the little ramps by the motorways on a London-Leeds drive.

Now I might see 1 or 2 Talivans on bridges....

The truth of the matter is that there are fewer and fewer Trafpol cars. Cars that were designated 'Motorway' cars now tend to cover the immediate area as well and sadly cant be in 2 places at once.

I've not seen them being used for a while either, but then I don't use the motorways that much.

I have noticed that there is armco barrier across the 'entrance' of some of the ones round here now, so you'd have to go past them and reverse back up the slope to park in one. Presumably because you could have quite an impressive accident if you hit one at speed.

I saw one in use on the M69 with a Person with a nice unit in his hand recording the speed of drivers. It was back in May, but they are still used

Last time I saw one in use was on the downhill section of the M40 between 5 and 6 (the cutting), this was a few years ago mind you...

I saw one on the M40 a couple of weeks ago, but more worryingly on the M69, after a session at Mallory Park.
Fortunately I saw him early enough and was the legal side of a ton by the time I was close.... phew...

Actually I've seen a few police cars parked up recently. I always wondered exactly why they bother, cos its rush hour so no one is moving faster than 50mph anyway!

Maybe a time for them to do paperwork? The ones I see always seem to be on the phone!

you know what may work - how about a big cut out of a police car or something similar, then Tonyrec you really could be in two places at once or at least make the public think you are. or even just the front half of a traffic car poking from behind a side hedge....

It may have the effect of makignpeople drive better when the see the batternburg cut out (thinking its a real one) but then it may get stolen. Although if as most of the m way network has a camera on it you would at least get the number of the car that stole it.

Dont know if that is a good suggestion or not? It would make me slow down....or at least more worried that a real police car may be there.

Its a bit like the big cut outs in stores of people =- at first glance it looks real... so if you are going along at 90 on the m way it would look real.
Although thinking abit further you may get panic braking. but you would if you were there in realitiy anyway.

Well at least I think its a good idea.

HI
FIRST POST

WELL MY DAILY COMMUTE FROM BARNSLEY TO MANCHESTER MEANS THAT I HAVE AN ENCOUNTER ALMOST EACH DAY WITH A SAFETY CAMERA VAN EITHER ON A VERGE OR BRIDGE ALONG THE M1, M62, M60, M602. WHERE AS I CAN GO MANY DAYS WITHOUT SEEING A SINGLE TRAFFIC POLICE CAR IN THE 140MILE DAILY COMMUTE. NOT THAT THIS AFFECTS ME ANYMORE I'M SO PARANOID NOW THAT I DARE NOT BREAK THE SPEED LIMIT ANYMORE EVEN WHEN CONDITIONS ALLOW. OBVIOUSLY THE SPEED KILLS MESSAGE HAS INVADED MY MIND! ALTHOUGH NOW I RESORT TO TAKING OUT MY FRUSTRATION ON DESERTED COUNTRY LANES IN THE FORM OF RALLYING WHICH IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS WHERE A SAFETY CAMERA VAN OPERATOR WOULD PROBABLY NOT BE ABLE TO GET THERE WITH THE HELP OF NASA AND THE AREA HAS PROBABLY NEVER HAD ANY FORM OF POLICE EVER. HAHAHAH.
