Should explain or or just pay up

I was stopped doing 91 on the M40. I slowed instantly pulled to the hard shoulder, was courteous and honest. He told me what he'd clocked me at, and said it was Nip offence. I gave him my plastic licence and he asked did I have my counterpart. I said I didnt, as I had left it at home. He said could I take it in to a police station within a week. As I was off to the continent on holiday for 10 days this would have been very difficult. I made the mistake of being honest and I told him this.
Well his eyes lit up you thought he'd had just caught some major criminal. After some discussion of what is actually on the paper copy if you don't have any points. I offered solutions to get my daughter to take in the counterpart, I even asked him if he could phone my local nick an tell them I would bring it in 3 days late.
Well now I have a summons for the magistrates court which I reckon could be 4 points and a grand instead of 3 and £35 quid.
Any comments on whether I should mention the counterpart debacle on my mitigating circumstances or would I get myself in more trouble?
Any thoughts
Cheers

I know you might think it a stoopid question - but why couldn't you nominate a station & take it there before going on hols?
FYI: if you can prove you had a holiday booked, this will help if you go to court. I suspect that you won't get a full £1000 boll*cking if you do this. Cop was being unreasonable tho'.
Goodluck, sorry I haven't said anything useful!
