Speed kills does it?

I know this is a more indepth issue and it goes on BUT, this is the line the government gives us so that is the line I am going to reply to. There is no mention of "inappropriate" or "dangerous" - just "speed kills".

To start -

My Dad.
Was field service personell. Drove over 750,000 BUSINESS miles in his time doing it and god knows how many personal. Exceeded the speed limit like most people on the motorways and most A and B roads. Has had 1 accident and that was at a crossroads when a car drove into the side of him. In fact had he been DOING more than the speed limit the car would have driven out behind him.

ME
A mere nipper in this but have been driving for 4 years, done 150,000 miles in that time exceeding the speed limit in a vast proportion of that time and have had one accident when a french guy in a rented car drove into me at a roundabout UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT!!!

Grandparents
Lot of driving done up and down the country, slow now but granddad is an excellent driver. Did exceed the speed limit, NO ACCIDENTS!!

Sister
Regularly exceeds the speed limits on the motorways mainly going from Sheffield to Reading, had 2 accidents, one while reversing (misjudged) and knocked a parked car, another where someone clipped her whilst she was driving down the road UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AND FAULT WAS NOT HERS!

Fekkin hell! A short cross section of just my own family and the stats show the government is talking bollocks.

Speed does not automatically kill therefore they should all f**k off especially brainstorm!

Sorry to rant on but the reason for this is being overtaken by a rusty old Granada while doing 40 in a 40 which had a "speed kills" sticker on the back

IT DIDNT KING KILL HIM EITHER!!!!

Maybe you should have remonstrated with the driver for his dangerous life threating behaviour?
and then whacked the twat for having such a stupid proclamation on the back of his shite-wagon!

I was going to overtake him but that would of ment exceeding the speed limit even more. From what I am led to believe that would have led to the instant death of every man woman and child in a radius of about 100 miles...

As it is the energy released during rapid deceleration following a crash that causes the damage, perhaps a more accurate phrase for the powers that be to adopt would be 'slowing down kills'.

Definitely more accurate but perhaps somewhat off message.

OK, personal study for my family.

Me: driving for 17 years, three accidents:

One definately driving at an inappropriate speed, with not enough experience to pull it off

One just messing about but not necesarily speeding at the time all though the speedo was reading about 70, the rear wheels were spinning and i was going sideways...again, not enough experince to pull it off!

One where i was doing about one mile an hour and got broadsided.

My dad: Speeds EVERYWHERE and always has..one accident in the 1970's when he was pissed and hit three parked cars as he pulled out of the golf club

Sister: One accident, lost the car on black ice at low speed.

Mother: Used to drive her MGB GT (also in the 1970's)like a nutcase until she crashed it into the back of a parked car while undertaking a mate of hers at a particularly innapropriate speed
She still speeds everywhere, but doesn't race people anymore..no more crashes

Grandmother: she is a confident driver and probably speeds when it is safe, No accidents i am aware of.

Uncle: Drives like a bat of hell as far as I know, ex biker and always drives powerful cars, no accidents as far as i know.

So, in my family there have been some speed related accidents, but always when driving like tw@ts or drunk

I only know one person who was killed in a car accident due to excessive speed and it was not him that was speeding but it was a speed related accident I guess.

The sentence for this particular action is almost as severe as that for speeding. As the children are readily and repeatedly reproduced in vast quantities by unskilled labour I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

Quelle domage! Oh, and you might consider yourself unskilled; after 40+ years of practice I consider my skills to be in the professional category - Streaky

Isn't that a bit like cars? - I mean many cars are readily and repeatedly reproduced in vast quantities by unskilled labour, but that doesn't mean they're any good...
Both cars and kids are better when they've been assembled/raised by skilled people that care about what they do.

My personal diving history.

Driving 20 years. 2 Accidents.

1st accident reversing at 5 mph in to parked car 2 weeks after I had passed .2nd accident, drove into the back of a lorry at 5 mph at a junction.

I feel so much safer when I am going fast

How many children were killed in these events out of interest? You do realise that at five miles an hour you could easily crush a child...you should probably slow down a tad.
